removable?
Can a sidecar be removed from the motorcyle by an owner with marginal machineist experience?
Sure it can, Erik, but why on earth would you want to?
except for maintenance, if necessary.
4 bolts and unplug the wires.
once a SC is attached to a bike and set up properly there is no reason to detach it.
I mentioned PROPERLY...you can just hook one up [with care and correct subframes and mounts] and drive it but it will not be very pleasurable, unless set up correctly.
I've heard a lot of negs about prospective SC drivers dissing the heavy steering, bouncy ride, bad turning, ETC drive one once and ...forget it!!
it will [should] have proper SC tires, heavier fork springs and/or modified triple trees or LL's, heavier rear shocks.
all this is not really necessary, but will make your SC driving a lot more pleasurable. it is VERY addicting! once you have it set up, you will NOT want to remove it>
You mean the movie Wild Hogs wasn't a documentary on sidecars Bob? ;>)

:o)
I havn't seen the movie yet, Tom.
I'm waiting for it to come to HBO.
I've noted with a chuckle that the FIRST thing a motorcycle rider asks when inquiring about sidecars is "How easy is it to take off and put bac on".
In theory its 4 bolts and a wire plug, but in reality its a pain in the ass. Better to just have multiple motorcycles.
One neat thing about sidecars is that they can be mounted to a basicaly stock motorcycle and enjoyed a lot. From there one can do 'upgrades' and modifications to make the rig handle better , give better tire life and so forth. But many will never do much to the stock bike and will still enjoy the ride and experience of sidecaring for years.
Yes, some wil remove and reinstall the sidecar to try and get the best of both worlds but this is really not that common. What is common is for a person new to sidecars to 'intend' to swap from hack to solo but finally decide to just leave the sidecar on. Sidecars are a ton of fun and can be even more fun as they are transformed from a solo with a hack to a dedicated sidecar rig.
