Question for Europeans that visit this site.
My wife and I are wondering if it is possible (hard or easy) to rent a motorcycle/sidecar outfit in Europe (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, etc.)? We would like to travel around Europe in a sidecar rig.
Thanks for your help.
Jerry
Hello Jerry,
I, have been looking on the internet for sidecar rentals.
I found two in Germany:
Kesseler Gespanne GMBH in the city of Neuss, telephone 02131-3666-6
No internet site.
and
Uli Jacken at WWW.side-bike.de
I have heard that in the Netherlands there also must be a sidecar rental but did not find it yet.
I think it will be cheaper to send your rig by boat and follow by air plane than to rent a sidecar.
Many Europeans who travel the states by bike do so.
If you want some further help just send me a message.
Greetings from the Netherlands,
Ingmar

Ingmar: Thanks for the reply. I was able to find one site in Germany that rented motorcycles and the cost was quite high, so I believe you are correct that it would be less expensive to ship my bike by boat.
The other post about the Ural trips in Russia are very intertesting and the cost is quite reasonable, however my wife is not into camping.

Hi Jerry,
I also took a look at the Ural site and think its worth the money, must be a great adventure.
In Europe are many hotels and campings especially for motorcycles.
There are a few in France and Germany.
You could ship your bike to Rotterdam and fly to Schiphol.
If I can be a help just let me know.
Greetings,
Ingmar
My wife and I just went through Schiphol last Thursday..... coming back from a trip to Siclily. Thanks for your offer.... it will probably be at least a year before our next trip. The dollar is again dropping vs. the Euro.

Hi Jerry, I just joined the forum from Finland. Have a look at my internet site http://sidecarfun.blogspot.com/. I´m just now planning to start a sidecar chauffering business for tourists in my home city. I had thought that I would not risk giving my rig to unexperienced drivers for rental, so I have arranged for a driver, and have mainly thought about daytrips in our nice countryside. Anyway, If You do have experience, and do not object to starting and finnishing Your tournee in Kuopio/Helsinki, I do not see why we couldn´t come to terms on a couple of weeks rental on your own. I understood its just the two of Your, so You could have a great time in a Harley+Ultra Classic (regietered for 1 person) outfit.
You did mention more central European countries, but if You fly to Helsinki for instance and we arrange for pick up of the rig there, You can take a 24 h ferry to Germany and be on Yor way...
Hanski: Thanks for the reply. Yes I am an experienced sidecar guy. At the present time I am putting together a new outfit.... 2006 Suzuki 1400 Intruder and a Texas ranger sidecar. My car should be here this week, so I am hoping I can starting riding again next week. I sold my Ural Decco last winter while I was in Flordia.
My wife and I usually like to travel to Europe during May. I would assume that your area is quite cold that time of year? Also northern Germany would be cold in May also, isn't that correct?
Jerry
Well we are mid may right now, and have rain in Finland at the moment. Two weeks back we had sun and 16 dec C. Depends on luck and preferences. The russian pianist Vladimir Aschenatzy said I recall, in an interview, that he spends summers in Finland because the rise of spring is especially pronounced in surroundings where winter is black and the move to blossom is fast. Our birches have blossomed for a while and it´s especially beautifull.
Finland could be an ideal starting point if You ride in "europeanwise" normal clothing" meaning gore-tex riding outfit on top of outdoor clothes. Besides southern europe Finnish lapland and Nordcap could be an option. I have done this my self on an about 1 weeks trip from here, and it was great.
