proper lights for sidecar in washington state
Ok, I've finally got my bike working, and am sorting out electrical gremelins. All the motorbikes' lights work, but only the rear (red) tail light on the sidecar.
What lights are required for the sidecar in Washington State? It's a 1974 Velorex model 560.
It has:
stock front white light (not yet working - single filament bulb)probably on running light circuit
stock rear red light (working - single filament bulb) on running light circuit
non stock rear light, not working, single filament bulb - think it's on the brake light circuit
non stock front light, not working, single filament bulb - not sure what circuit it's on.
both of the non-stock light don't have lenses so I don't know what the previous owner thought they should be doing (brake or turn signal).
I'm busy making lenses for them.
So, I need to know if I need turn signal on the side car, or a brake light, or both. If I have a turn signal on it, do I have to disable the turn signal on the MC? what color lenses should the lights have (amber, red, white?)
The sidecar is one of very few wheeled items in Washington that does not require a separate license. It is considered an accessory and as such has no specific lighting requierments aside from those of the motorcycle itself.
If putting accessory lighting on the sidecar such as a turn signal or signals, consider removing the bulb(s) from the right turn signal(s) of the bike to better separate the lights. Also make sure the flasher is capable of operating the lights without fluttering. A heavy duty flasher may be required.
Lens colors recommended: White or amber for front lighting. Red or amber for turn signal. Red for stop light. Blue lenses are prohibited for other than police or emergency vehicles.

Thanks much Lonnie. sounds like I'm in good shape then, if I can get the extra lights working, then I'll probably use the rear for the stop light/running light, and front for just running lights. Just wanted to be legal.
