Placement of Headlight for the Hack...?
I want to install an additional light onto the Velo 565 more for safety sake, spotting deer and being seen... Folks tend to think there really IS something coming if they see two lights.
I'm really having a hard time with placement of the light. I hate the thought of just plunking it up on the front of the body on the car and if it gets mounted on the step there is always the chance of it getting kicked by the passenger... and actually that is too far back anyway.
Got any photos of where you mounted aux lighting...?
Thanks.,
Rob

At least in Germany they don't even allow you a second head light bacause you are a motorcycle not a car. Just a search light you may swivel by hand.
In spite you have the withs of a car. Understand some one law makers!
In US and Latinamerica it seems like nobody cares. As I use to say Costa Rica's democracy is based on the anarchy of every single person.
If you have a protection bar for the rigs nose (like my Velorex), why not mount it on top of it.
As you say If you mount it on the fender it mught hde the flasher and the light reflected from the boat's nose will be nasty in fog.

Here's a couple of pix.

Northwest Sidecars
Those are neat Lonnie... The 565 has the "bumper" similar to the 562 on the Burgman in the first photo and I though of putting it on there...
Is that a car type driving light on the Texas car..? Maybe mount two up front on the 565 "Bumper"
Thanks, those are helpful.

I kinda butchered Lonnie's picture to show some common places we may see sidecar lights mounted. Sorry Lonnie...lol.
We just did a GS/Ural rig and mounted a PIAA light right in the middle of th enose of the sidecar on the bumper. The GS itself also has auxillary lights on it.
We have also mounted lights on the nose of some dual sport type rigs right on top of the nose.
See attached
Nice butcher job Claude,
I think the "C" & "D" locations would be good... Possibly one in the "C" poition and one outboard of the left side of the tug. I'll get a set of lights and start playin' around..:)
Thanks,
Rob

If you want to fab a set of brackets to mount the lights on the bumper you may be able to find some u bolts as a handy start. The type that have the flat part on the 'u' are best. These can typically be had at an auto parts or maybe a truck or tractor suppy store. Usually they are used for u joints etc and are quite strong. The bumper is probably 1" od or close enough to that to work. On the part of the u bolt that isn't the 'u' you can weld a piece of angle or whatever to mount the light to. If you weld a piece on there with a hole in it to mount anoorther piece to you will end up with w fully adjustable light mount for aiming purposes.
We typically make up pinch blocks in lew of using u bolts. These are made of say 1 1/4" x .120 wall to go onto a 1" od tube. Small pieces of tubing (3/4" x .120)are welded perpendicular to the 1 1/4" material and will receive the clamping bolts. Once these are welded on the tubing is splt length wise to make into two halves that are then bolted together. Tabs or whatever can be welded onto the pinch blocks or even bolted on where the small tubes are.
The attached picture may give an idea of what I mean although it is for a different application.
On my V Strom/Ural rig, there is a running light on the sadecar fender, plus, we added a single driving light between the bike and the car ("D" in Claud's illustration). It is protecetd a little since it is set back a bit between them. I got the idea originally from the Duantless sidecar website (dualsport sidecars). On my GoldWing, I just have the two additional driving lights which fit in hte lower cowling, plus, the Hanigan sidecar has a driving light built in to the sidecar, with bot low and high beams integrated with the bike.see http://www.dauntlessmotors.com/Mountinghardware/images/ural/bmwr1150gsadvuralrackslf2.04.JP G" target="_blank">http://www.dauntlessmotors.com/Mountinghardware/images/ural/bmwr1150gsadvuralrackslf2.04.JP G"/> greg
No Prolum' Claude,
Although using the E-position on the Texas car would give an erraticly moving light since it is a swing-arm mounted fender.
For tubular mounting on bumpers, frames or crash bars: most bike shops have different diameter clamp style chrome mounting brackets available for mounting lights. The best I've found were the three piece clamps with different size mounting holes. Priced between $8. and $10. Look good and work well.
