Hi All,

Well, just when you think you've thought of every reason to have the sidecar---up jumps the Devil! I'm going camping this weekend with a small group. It always bothers me to have to get out of my tent, get dressed and fumble around down paths with no lights to find the Ladies Room in the evening or night-time hours at a camp-ground. (Especially when the guys are cheerfully and conveniently watering trees.)

So, I got to thinking--always a dangerous condition--and remembered my little portable boat pottie that I used while fishing. Oh, boy! I have an extra tent, and there is room in the chair for the entire contraption, with room left for my usual camping gear! So, parked about 15 feet from my tent, will be the Ladies Room, MkII!! Obviously for limited use--at night, but oh, so convenient!

I just LOVE that sidecar!

Will it have special toiletries, hand towels, perfumed hand soap, a potpuri bowl, perfumes of verious sorts, expensive hand lotions and herbal fragrances emitted from a special oil lamp, as do the higher end ladies rooms? Or are you really roughing it? 🙂

Roughing it: slow room service, coarse toilet paper, zero degree weather with no heater in the outhouse.

Read newspaper if you think there may be no paper. Slick paper magazines are definitely not recommended. Always carry an extra bog roll in your gear.

Barb,
Back when my bride and I were sidehack campers we had a small second tent that was used for hygiene purposes and a dressing room. That way we didn't have to walk on the bedding or our stuff with what could sometimes be muddy boots and it afforded more privacy than the sometimes ill smelling and unkempt facilities that were available for all to use.
Two tents take up very little space even with a solo rig.

You really had me frightened for a moment. When you first mentioned sidecar, and portable pottie, and, well, it just doesn't bear thinking about.

I'm just glad you have the extra tent; that's all I'm saying.

🙂

Hi All,

Well, if I had one of those big two-person fully-enclosed sidecars like the Brits had in the 1930's, I might just use it, but no---a "Sport" chair, and a seat that my Grandkids sit on---it will be in a tent!

Now, where did I put that kitchen sink....?

I supply bloody mary's for my airhead buddies by bringing my portable bar to our new years rally. Silver serving tray, silver goblets, stirring spoon, celery....nothing like a little touch of class while sleeping in the dirt out in the desert! I've been eyeing one of those gasoline engine powered blenders with motorcycle handle bar throttle, but I guess I gotta draw the line somewhere.

Ah yes, the Large Folgers Coffee container makes a great portable john. After some of my experiences with porta johns and other non sanitary situations, the Folgers container seems like a wonderful alternative.

Ahhhh, perhaps that is where the comercial came from where
they secretly replaced the other fellow's coffee with Folger's to see if he could taste the difference. Hope they used the right Folger's can when they did that swap. 🙂

You guys are delightfully sick.....8^)

As it turns out, we had a campsite about fifty feet from the facilities, and the silly thing stayed (unused) in the sidecar the whole weekend! Yet one more lesson about over-thinking a problem....

But the good news is that the bike ran great, and with my new luggage rack I had tons of room, and the fairing (circa 1978) that I put back on is working great! No wind-stream! How neat is that!!

No need for a porta-pottee, either.....lesson learned!

I don't know, but you may completely be missing a great opportunity for selling a unique sidecar accessory. Port-A-Potty On The Go. 🙂

A state operated campus to house mentally ill teenagers I used to work at had their lateral lines all wash away during a violent storm, once. The state had a company deliver several port-a-potties to use while the lines were being repaired. At first staff used them, but always had a second person available as a watch to keep the flimsy door from flying open by accident or from someone coming in on them by accident as they used the facility. By about the third day though, the second person was then used to hold the door shut from the outside so that the person would stay in the darn thing long enough to use it, as the odor was so horrific.

I used to know a guy who did all the cleaning of the port-a-potties in Indy, at the 500 race. He said the company made over $35,000 bucks on that each season and an equal amount in the ones that were set up for the downtown area during events. As I said, you may be missing a golden opportunity to capatalize and market the mobile sidecar port-a-potty idea............Go for it, girl! 🙂
