new to this
I am new to the idea of going to a sidecar. After riding bikes (35 years) my health (stoke) has sidelined me. I am taking the class on riding, am now looking at buying a Moto Guzzi Cali. What would you think a good sidecar would work with the MG? I am in Seattle, WA. Any ideas would be great.

1999 V11 EV and a Motorvation Formula II. At first I wasn't crazy about the look of the sidecar. It looks like a wedge of cheese. But it trails and handles great and has a lot of room in it. It grows on you. I get a lot of compliments on the outfit.
Are you looking at the new California?
I think a Ural sidecar would look great on one of these. For that matter, I've seen them on older Californias as well.
Here's a Ural on an older Cali,

Thanks for the ideas. What do think about Texas hacks?

Personally, I have no experience with them, but Bob Darden has a great reputation. Someone else who owns one will chime in.
I personally know the Dardens. Great people. I bought the Escort model sidecar though the Texas Sidecar company. I live in San Antonio Tx and when I expressed an intress in their sidecar they drove all the way down from north Tx to talk me. I and my wife thought their model was a little small for us. We bought the Champion Escort and love it to death. The Dardens installed the sidecar on my Yamaha 1100 Silverado. It served well for a couple of years. The bike just didn't have the power and torque to drive comfortably so I upgraded my ride to the Yamaha Venture. The Dardens remounted and had the sidecar repainted to match my bike. I am very happy to know them and will continue to do business with them.
My first large motorcycle was the Moto Guzzi Eldorado 850 in 1973. A good bike and I think the Texas Sidecar Ranger would be perfect.
Here are 3 Guzzi rigs we setup when we had our shop in Marysville.
They make great sidecar tugs.

Hi Doug and welcome to the forum, if your going to have a passenger a front lift or the Ural with it's step in design makes it very easy for the passenger to get in.
If you get it rolling by March consider coming to the USCA Rally that's going to be at Lake Chelan, lot of nice people and a lot of sidecars, take a look at the events section for the full details and If you go for a ride and are going to or thru Leavenworth Wa. let me know and maybe we can get together.

Hi Doug,
Good luck getting back on the road. Check out the Chelan rally at www.chelanrally.com and we'll see ya there! Even if you don't have a rig by then, come on over...
10-4, thank you. I hope to be up-running after March. I am taking a class make sure I have the basic abilities to ride.
Is there any issue to get insurence with a hack? Just thinking ahead.....

Check your coverage. If they insure it as an accessory, there may be a nasty surprise in store. Most companies lump all accessories and the contents of your bags into a single group and will only pay up to 10% of the bike's value. In other words, if they value your bike at $10,000, the most they will pay for a totaled sidecar, saddlebags, custom seat, and windshield will be $1000, even if you can show receipts for much more. When you insure it, find out how your company classifies it. I insure my sidecar on a $4000 rider to the motorcycle policy.
