New rig is here now with pics
Yesterday my Brother arrived with my new sidecar in the back of his truck, New to me anyway. We spent an hour or so looking at it and then he reminded me I helped him take it off his bike. Oh crap. That was 2-3 years ago. So we had some instructions on how to set it up, toe in and lean, and two old memories, so we spent the day hooking it up. I am grateful that I am a machinist. The front two mounts went on like they were meant to but the rear two we fabricated.
I apologize for no pictures as we were both whupped by the time we finished up last night, the instructions were correct in that it takes patience and two people with experience with tools, we're both long-time gearheads, but the beasty is near ready for a try out today. Just need to hookup and bleed the brakes and then tie in the electrics.
I need to do a bit of research on here as to the best tire to run as my back tire needs replaced and I'm going to put a car tire on there. Then as each tire gets worn I'll replace them with car tires.
BYW - It's a Spaulding sidecar hooking up to a 1987 Harley big twin.
Be well and have a superb day -
Steve
You know the rules, Steve - No pics = didn't happen!

Hi Steve, where in Idaho are you? If you're in northern Idaho and can do so, come on over to Conley's in Spokane on East Sprague by the White Elephant Saturday morning. We (UMCI) meet there at 8:30. If you're in southern Idaho, be sure to link up with Lonnie and Judy Cook in Boise when you can... Sweet rig you have there!
WOW! Super duper! Extremely excellent, one of the very nicest rigs I've seen! Did I mention I LOVE IT!?
Great how the lines on the car match the lines on the faring. Even the fender & chrome accents match your bike, like it's made for it. Hopefully that's real close to what my Kawi rig will look like when it's done...
Thanks for sharing.

Great looking rig you have there!!
Thanks for all the nice words folks! I'm currently working on a home made reverse courtesy an inspirational set of photos from one of the members here. I live in Southern Idaho and have met Lonnie. I'll get over to his space again with the sidecar so he can give a look see.
I am indeed hopeful that this rig will give me many more years of riding pleasure. And I can now pack my guitar and dog - 🙂
SWEET...
I was just enjoying the pictures again and noticed the low mount steering damper. That's interesting. Only ones I've seen before are mounted up top from frame to forks.
He says he'll have Lonnie look at it. I'm sure Lonnie can get that stabilizer mounted up high on the fixed part of the fork. Looks like either the engine guard or the lower front strut are possible places to anchor the other end.
The stabilizer is mounted where my brother had it. He rode it for over a year with no problems so I left it where it was. Is this a potential problem?
And yeah I'll get by Lonnies at some point in time so he'll likely have some advice about it also.

My 86 Aspencade/HitchHiker rig had the stabilizer mounted low. One of the caliper mounting bolts was replaced with a heim joint that threaded into the caliper mount.
That was in the early 90's. The sentiment was that the wobble doesn't start at the neck, it starts at the wheel. Never had a problem with it there. It's the only rig I've owned that had one, so I have no experience with them mounted elsewhere.
