New member... question about Harley sidecars
When I was a soldier in the 70's, I had a 42 BMW w/sidecar (along with an H2 until my last deployment in 77)... it was a blast to ride, but wasn't a "freeway ride" really.
I have been looking at some Sportsters (2005-7) and some used sidecars.
So will a "1945LE" 1945 sidecar attach well with a 2005 Harley Sportster?
What work will it entail, and will there be parts that need to be fabricated, or will I be able to get the parts over the counter?
What other makes of sidecars will work with the Sportster?
Thank you for your time and counsel.

The 1945 LE sidecar will not work with out some custom parts and would not be a great match up. More modern sidecars have suspension and as such would work much better on your bike. We of course make mounts that are bike specific for your bike, we also make sidecars, We have a new version of our M72B sidecar that sits lower coming out latter this month. It sells for only $3995 as does our kenna single, both come with the bike specific Not universal mounting hardware. Here is a link giving more information on mounting a sidecar to your bike, the last photo shows are mounts http://www.dmcsidecars.com/the-result-of-improper-sidecar-mounting-and-the-proper-fix/
When ever you add a sidecar to a bike you also end up with heavy steering, we offer triple tree's to lower the steering effort with the sidecar $550 and also offer a steering damper should you have a front end shake when done $250

Harley sidecars are not designed to Sportsters. There are aftermarket mfg'rs. who make sidecars with the early body style that are easily mounted to a Sporty. Most have suspension and a disc brake option.
