New here , got interested in sidecars a while ago and found one but I am told it is too big for my KLR . Need to sell it but not sure what it is worth . Vetter Terraplane is solid but needs work . brake , tire , trim , paint . I would post a picture if i could figure out how .

The KLR is pretty tall and week on the chest. I mean the frame and the engine.
I don't know how tall is the Vetter sidecar and big the wheel.
As my Velorex was way too low, light and week I did not marry it with the KLR and kept it on the Jawa which is getting a new engine.
If the Vetter is pretty tall you could go for it anyhow- I'd suggest on the KLR a strong subframe (not only a few flimsy stiffenings) stronger springs in the front and gear down the sprockets perhaps 20-30 % depending how your riding range is.
That should do it well, specially for a beginner rig.
A too light sidecar is dangerous. (on my first day on 13.Dez.86 I went 3 times straight into the green.)
Best wishes
Sven

Your Kawasaki KLR will go very well with a Ural sidecar.
I have had one on my DR650 since 06 and it works very well.
The KLR is a bit heavier and would do well.

This sidecar could be made to work on the KLR (we have mounts) however other sidecars would work better as the Vetter does not have a lot of ground clearance. Also as the Vetter uses a very much not standard 3 point mount either custom parts would have to be fabricated with the bike and sidecar in the shop or we make a bolt on kit to convert the Vetter into a standard 4 point adjustable mount. The kit for the Vetter mounts runs $750, The mounts for the KLR run $600

If you are located any where near us, We might take the Vetter in on trade, Shipping the sidecar would eat up to much of the value which is why you would need to be close to us.

There is a Yahoo Group site dedicated to Vetter Terraplanes. You may want to try and search that out.

It is not easy to "take the body off" of a Vetter sidecar as the body does not sit on top of the frame like a normal sidecar would. I would still try and sell it, Post it on craig's list. Give it a month or two. It will sell.

It's not easy to gain ground clearance on a Vetter. To improve safety, Craig V. wrapped bars under the sidecar body that are integral to the frame. Taking the body off won't gain you much.

I have had it for sale for several months on ebay and craigs list with no interest at all . Thinking of just using the back half of the frame replacing the bars under the body with stright bars and adaping to a four point adjustable mountng . Whats the worst that could happen ?

Wha'ts the worst that could happen?

Simple: Send You and Your passenger right into the hostipal or the grave yard.

I have seen designs and designs, and sadly in US machinery I blame frecuently that they make the unimportant parts heavy gauge and the most stressed parts will recieve weigh saving design...
Sorry, but that is my experience in many years of machinery overhauls. If you head into a modification, do it with good mechanical engineering back ground and solid principles.

So in any occasion, let the most important rule reign here too:
SAFETY FIRST!
