New guy here!
Just found your site after purchasing a velorex 562. I plan to hook it to my wife's 02 V-star 650.
I've read the instruction manual on how to install the sidecar, but wondered if there was any additional info I should be looking for when doing the install/setup. Also if anyone has one installed on a V-star some pictures would be great.
Also wonder if there is any good info out there on what to expect when driving with a side car.
Anyone know of any sidecar training course in MN? My wife is a new rider so I'm a little nervous getting her started with this setup.
Also would like some info on if I should use the brake setup or not. It came with the factory wheel with brake, but someone installed the wheel and tire as shown.
Thanks,
Here's some pictures of our side car. Little dusty...

TThe stock velorex instructions are horrible.
Find a pair of nice 8 foot long florescent bulbs. strap one to the sidecar wheel and one to the rear wheel of the bike. Use them to check your alignment and toe in.
I live over here on the SD/MN border and could come over and help you with installation if you like. Ther is actually quite a bit going on with setting up a sidecar and its a shame for you to repeat mistakes that many of us have already made.
Ha ha and I thought I was the only one that thought them instructions were crapy.
I may take you up on your offer.
So you use the rear wheel measurements instead of the front then?

As a novice sidecar rider (10 minutes in a parking lot at low speeds)- it is completely different than riding a bike. No countersteering, no leaning. Every time you accelerate (and I mean every little time you roll on the throttle) the outfit pulls to the right (for a right side sidecar). The opposite happens when you roll off the throttle. I have yet to experience it at speed or feeling the extra effort it takes to steer the bike. I've also yet to feel having the sidecar come up off the ground on a right hand turn.
There are posts with recommended practice routines and advice - some of which is to take a class and to get the sidecar setup properly so that it tracks straight. When I get my sidecar I intend to do all 3 - take a course, practice the braking and steering routines till I'm comfortable and have someone knowledgeable do the setup (or show me how).
My question is off track but what make is a VTX? Never heard of it but it sure has a nice look. Thank you
VTX Honda 1300 or 1800 Cruisers.
Here's a couple of my 1800 conversions. One with a Kenna & one with a URAL.

Linda, a little off topic, but...I noticed in the pic you have your foot down..is this to keep the bike from falling? :o)

I am new to sidecars, about 1 1/2 years now. Our CA state rep Gail and her husband Larry graciously came over after I got my rig with little cones and we found a big parking lot and if it weren't for their help, I'm sure I would have been floundering much longer than without their help and instruction and through out those practice sessions a wonderful friendship emerged. If Lunatic can give you support and hands on experience, go for it. It will make all the difference and much less frustration I would think. Best of luck setting up your wife's new toy. She will love it. I rarely use the car anymore... Have fun and tell her to keep that right tire on the road. LOL Fortunate for me, my hack is so heavy, I can't imagine it ever coming up.Best of luckLinda
