MY 105th ANNIVERSARY TLE
Well I did it, I bought the 08 105th anniversary colors sidecar. Leaving from Texas heading to California in 3 weeks to pick it up in my truck and bring it home and start hooking it up. I'm very excited and looking forward to a new challange of sidecar riding. My 87 year old dad is going with me to see the west coast one more time as this might be his last road trip, getting to old to travel now days, but we are going to do this road trip. Does anyone know what all comes with a TLE when bought new, the dealer says everything is there but I'm not sure what all is included. I will be on this forum alot asking you guys questions when I start the build so bear with me if I ask stupid questions. Thanks Bobby
Can't answer your question but enjoy the time with your Dad!

Hi Bobby: I can't answer your questions either as I have no experience with the TLE. But do enjoy the the trip, which may prove to be one of the best parts of the purchase.

ok.. parts with the sidecar - comes all in one box. about a foot square and 9 inches high & HEAVY with a single part number on it. if parts are missing they cost a lot more purchased separate than in the kit so if your kit is opened or if they hand you a random box of parts and promis a full list - get with the parts man and get the proper part number for the kit and print out the list - then check the list to the parts they give you, if ANYTHING is missing demand that they order the missing parts and send them to you. some are a total pita to get.
note - the large castings are the cheap parts most of the bux are in the itsy parts.
front lower bracket - two pairs, left and right - plus a threaded stand off that goes between them plus specal bolts with locktight plugs on them.
front upper bracket - two forgings with a bolt between them
rear mount - forging
brake line tee
oil pressure sender re-locator - a tee and a nipple
special rear brake pedal
rear brake master cylinder adapter - the most special part [and a b*&^ to install i might add]
rear brake master cylinder reservoir and formed hose - the next most special part
tssm overturning switch unit that mounts behind the battery with a Y harness - if this is missing the engine can shut off in turns.......
steering damper mount to the fork
steering damper & all its bolts
turn stop wire harness
right rear saddle bag latch modification kit.
two sets of mount eyes and large mount bolts
long clutch cable
im sure im missing something
i would HIGHLY recommend a raked tree, either the liberty tree, or a triglide tree and sliders

Thanks timo482 that is exactly the things I'm trying to find out. Fastblue and Swampfox you hit the nail on the head another road trip with my Dad is going to be a great adventure to say the least. Timo482 what is the saddle bag mod kit? I'm definatly going to get the raked trees just not sure which one to get yet.
"i would HIGHLY recommend a raked tree, either the liberty tree, or a triglide tree and sliders ".
I believe the Tri Glide kit parts are the trees and fork tubes.
the right saddle bag latch is essential or you cant get the saddle bag open all the way ... what it does is makes the lid actually remove rather than open..
you can get the bag open enough to reach in and pull the mount twisties without the mod kit - but you cant really use the bag without it. i forgot to remove it from the last bike i traded in that was on this sidecar - that brain fart cost me nearly 200 bux

The rollover switch mentioned above is an interesting item. Beginning with the 2003 model, Harley-Davidson also provided a Rollover Protection Switch with the TLE/TLE Ultra sidecars to ensure that the engine will shut off in the event of a crash where the sidecar inverts.
Ordinarily, the Bank Angle Sensor on a solo machine will shut the engine off if the machine tips over to greater than a 45 degree angle. This is done with a pendulum that is inside of the TSM (Turn Signal Module) on a bike without the security system. That module is called the TSSM (Turn Signal Security Module) on bikes equipped with the security system.
The TSM/TSSM module is directly behind the battery on my 2004 Ultra. The Rollover Protection Switch connects between the TSM/TSSM and the main electrical harness. After it's connected, it's necessary to take the machine to a Harley-Davidson dealer and pay to have the TSSM toggled to sidecar use. This is done with the Digital Technician laptop that they have at the dealer in the shop. It cost me $45 for a half hour. Nice.
The part number of that unit is 88115-03. Sometimes people just throw them away or install them and leave them on the bike if they sell the sidecar. The last price I saw was $129.95 retail from HD. You can run without it if you wish. It does provide a measure of added safety if there is a bad crash, however. Bear in mind, that if the sidecar is removed and if the bike isn't toggled back to solo, the engine won't shut off if the bike falls over.
IIRC, the 2000 -2002 bikes were capable of toggling to sidecar use on the Ultra bikes without the 88115-03. It was done in usual HD style using the ignition switch and turn signals to encode the change. This is outlined in the sidecar manual. 99485-XX. This was changed in -03 when they brought the separate part out.
The list from Timo shown above looks complete. Generally, all of those items are in two boxes in the crate when the sidecar is delivered. The 88115-03 Module was in a plastic bag in the trunk when I got my sidecar in the crate. Hopefully, you will get one with the sidecar. You might ask about it.
Good luck on your installation.
Congratulations on your new sidecar. I just had Mancuso H-D mount a '08 TLE on my '98 FLHT in August last year. I live in Magnolia, TX so if you want to check out my installation let me know and we can meet up sometime. I eat breakfast at Old Montgomery Steakhouse almost every Sunday at 11:30 so maybe we can meet there.
Tmuilenberg I eat there sometimes on the weekend also , it would be great to meet up there, I would really like to see your rig and talk to you about it. I'm working this weekend but have the next two weekends off so maybe we can get together then. What did Mancuso charge to hook up the sidecar and did they do a good job? I'm thinking of doing it myself to save some money and I like doing things like that.
Bobby, I'll probably be at Old Montgomery Steakhouse this Sunday, we usually go after church so we get there about 11:30. Let me know if you can make it.
Mancuso's charged one price for the purchase of the TLE and the hook up. IIRC the amount for the hook-up was $600.
They originally had the toe-in set to 1.5", which I wasn't too happy about. After a couple of adjustments it seemed pretty well balanced so I left the toe-in as it was. I had them replace the upper frame bracket due to corrosion (Harley warranty) and when I got it back the toe-in was set to 1" but now it pulls slightly to the right. When I asked them to adjust the leanout an extra degree they told me it ran fine so I told them to leave it and I would do it myself. Haven't had time to do it yet.
I'll see you there around noon tmuilenberg, I'll be riding a Coper Pearl RoadGlide.
