Looking into getting a side car rig

Here we go. I am 58 and going blind. Have BEB. My wife is 45 and still loves to ride. Problem, I am 6'1, 225 and she is 5'4 and 120. Can't ride 2 up that way. Now we have never had a side car rig, and have no idea what to get. This is the first web area I have found that has actual people that know what they are talking about. Since I will be disabled, we want to do some traveling, and do not want to be banned from the Interstate systems. And love the mountains too. I can't see, but she can. Anyone got a few ideas to spare? We sure would appreciate it. Thanks people;
Bob & Cherlyn

I'm sure others will offer up better ideas than I would so I'd just like to wish you the best of luck in your endeavor and best of luck with the challenges that come your way!

Thank you for your thoughts. We will get this going. But we refuse to rush in to anything. Will most likely go with BMW or Goldwing. But who knows. They are just what I like. But thats why I have posted here. They might not be what we need.
Again, Thanks

Start looking here

http://www.sidecar.com/Maps/maryland.htm

Click around in there and you will find Dealers and Distributirs in your state. We also have a state rep located there and give Bob a call if you would like. You can make this happen!

Bob,
Either of the bikes you mentioned wouLD be a great choice. Be sure to get a large enough sidecar and you will be in gOod shape.
Feel free to contact me if I can be of any assistance. We are in central pa. so not that far from you. This is not about 'sales' but about an offer to help out in any fashion I can.
Gary Haynes of the sidecar magic shoppe is also fairly close in w. va. (See hack'd.com)and a great guy to work with.

Claude:
Thank you for your reply. But we also need sales assistance, and we completely understand what you are saying. We appreciate your offer, and since we love PA we will probably end up in Pa. My work allowed me to once again travel all over the beautiful state of PA. where I grew up and Cherlyn loves it too. Thats where she wants to ride.

From your sentence >>Thank you for your reply. But we also need sales assistance<<< I suppose my sentence that said "this is not about sales' may have thrown you off.

What I meant by that is that if we can help in any way with advice setup or whatever we are here to do so. However we do build sidecars and trailers full time as well. We are also a rep for Motorvation and will be offering our own production sidecar on the market soon.

We also offer one on one sidecar traing at the shop by appointment.

Whew..was that spam or what? LOL

I am ex-military, I like spam. Well, my wife was just asking where we could find a place to learn about or how to ride with a car. And with all of the traveling we have done in Pa, your location is not a problem. For years I repaired overhead sign structures all over the state of PA. SO I know how to navigate that area. As a matter of fact we just came back from a few days in Hamburg. Stopped by HArley in Orwigsburg, and Hermeys on Rt 61. But we are very pleased to hear from you. This web forum has been the greatest. I am just really fortunate that I can still see a little bit at this time.
Thanks again
Bob & Cherlyn

need a little clearing here..you are going blind..bummer! but, now you want to get into sidecars...IE, your wife will be driving and you sitting in the SC... only option.
make sure the SC is big enough for your size. enough leg room and width, and easy to get in and out.

YUP. Thats about it. SHe still wants to ride, and heaven only knows I shouldn't be doing the driving, and I really don't want a trike. And the funny thing is about my affliction is that I can actually see, if I could get my eye lids open. They slam shut. But if I hold them open I can see somewhat. But yeah, I need a prety good size car, @ 6'1/ 225 lbs. I am not a little guy. And she is only 120 max. SO I need power and room. And Have been havind a hard time figuring out what size bike to use. So I have pretty much decided on a GW or a BMW. Not sure which, then comes the fun of finding a car to match everything. It will be a fun thing for us. But as I said, I am not going to rush, going to do a lot of looking first.
Thanks for your reply.

Um. Ok, So, I know this is a sidecar site and all. An I"m a big sidecar fan. And I do build and install them, but . . . .I think you should get a nice convertable car instead. The four wheeled kind. With power steering, and a retractable roof.

Maybe I should change screen names with you. She wants the motorcycle thing still. Done the convertable route, not what she wants. Since she has to drive, you know how that goes.

I highly recommend a Motorvation FII sidecar for you...lots of room, flip open front, easy in and out, like an auto.

as far as bikes go, either one you mentioned would be good, but make sure it has at least 1000 CC...need it for easy cruising.
the BMW will need a subframe. GW can get away without one, but needs to be properly mounted.

Thanks Guy, That looks like a pretty neat deal. And thanks for the information on the bikes. I have been leaning toward a GW about a 1500 or above. And I would definatly have it done by someone that does this for a living. I have been a welder for 40 years, but a blind one leaves a lot to be desired. Ya know?
Thanks again;
