Looking for a cheap sidecar for sale or trade
Hey guys,
I Have reciently raised a 1971 Honda CB500 from the junk yard and I wqas looking to get a side car for it. I am on a student's budget, so I can't afford to buy a good side car. I do have access to a machine shop, and I was hoping to find a damaged side car near Ohio to repair.
I have an old CB500 carb for partial trade, if anyone is interrested.
If anyone can help I would appreciate.
Thanks,
Jonathan
Hey, welcome to a new neighborhood. Were you the one on SOHC4 who was thinking of getting those plans for a 30s rig on ebay? Well, let's see if someone has a... well, a fixerupper. Use the force, Luke!
Hey jonnyreverb,
Glad you made it over from SOHC.
I see you are in Ohio. Might want to check out this.

One thing you will find out is sidecars aren't cheap. A cheap sidecar in need of repair will still be about $500. Then you need all the mounting bits which you could make or find yourself or pay a couple hundred bucks for.

Building th ewhole thing may be an option too. If you are handy with a welder and have access to some parts this ain't rocket science.
Body? use you imagination there. Have seen sidecar bodies made from all kinds of things that worked very well.
Thanks for the responces and welcomes.
Yup that's me from the SOHC forum.
Thanks for the links,
Jonathan
Wow! thanks for the link. I can't afford this one now, maybe in a couple months, but it is exactly the style I an looking for. If anyone sees anything like this (maybe needing some repair) I would appreciate the link.
Thanks,
Jonathan

The Do it Yourself approach was my first idea, but after asking about it in the SOHC forum, I got the idea it could be dangerous if you didn't know what you where doing (and I have never even ridden in a side car). I do have a friend who has some experience with fiberglass work (mabye if I could find a frame I could build the car).
If someone knows of a website with plans for a ridden/proven side car, that would be somthing I would be interested in having a link to.
Thanks,
Jonathan
I read an online article once and the fellow said that he simply put an add in the paper (Greensheet, Thrifty Nickle or whatever your local paper is). He said he had three or four calls from people who had an old sidecar out in a shed, in a garage, under poles or whatever. Seems they either had forgotten about them over time or simply thought no one would ever want them. I believe he was from Chicago. For the price the little rag papers charge for adds, it may result in some leads. Maybe no, but one never know until they try.
Good luck,
Huey
That's what I was hoping to find. I guess a sidecar forum isn't the best place to find somone who forgot about their sidecar and just want to get rid of it. I will try posting in a Thrifty nickle or something.
Thanks for tha advice,
Jonathan
Go to ebay and see number

A pottemtially "cheap" sidecar that would go well on your CB500. Its even in Ohio.
Kevin
Hi Kevin,
It was a good deal, but by the auction end it was a little more than I can afford right now.
Thanks,
Jonathan
