Looking at my options.. need some experienced input
Hello -- I live in Maine and am currently without a motorcycle. I have ridden for years but for the past 6 or 7 have been without a bike of any kind due to the whole family, job, school thing... I have always been fascinated with getting a sidecar setup and think this winter may finally be the time I can pull the trigger to make this little dream come true.
I have looked at the Urals and think that they would be fine as I am able to do basic wrench turning and the bike will essentially be for banging around town and throughout the state with me and my dog. However I think they are a bit pricey for me right now. I really like Triumphs and BMW's and was leaning more in that direction at this time.
My thought is to buy an older Triumph Bonneville (I have my eyes on a 72' at the moment) or possibly an airhead and then have a sidecar installed on it. I REALLY like the style of the URAL style sidecars but will ultimately get something used. Plus I am thinking that I can always ride the bike solo until I figure out what it is I need and/or find a good deal on a hack. I guess my question is will pretty much any older Triumph Bonny or BMW accept a sidecar safely? There is a place in Maine (I only know this from Google) called Motorcycle Sidecars And More. Or is there any other shops that do this sort of work?
I may post this on the ADV forum as well looking for some input. Thanks in Advance!!

A better bet than an old Bonneville would be one of the new ones. The older ones will accept a sidecar, but you would benefit from the larger powerplant and much better reliability of the newer models. Pretty much any BMW boxer-motored bike can be fitted with a sidecar, too. But just keep in mind that by the time you've bought a bike, found a sidecar for it and have mated the two together the total cost will be in the range of a used Ural combo.
What Mike said. A newer Triumph or BMW paired with a Ural or one of Dauntless' great M72 cars would be a great combo. It will not be cheap, though. You might consider a nice used Ural, the newer the better, as a way to enter the sidecar world. If you maintain it and stay withing it's limits, it will work very well for you.

If he wants to drive around his state a 500 is not my idea of a good rig bike. May years ago I had some old British bikes and I did drive them on some short 400 to 500 mile trips not the best road bikes. But they are a lot of fun around town.
I have a T 100 C right now I just have to finish putting it together.
We can help you with both sidecars as well as mounting hardware should you go with a used sidecar. Before you buy a used sidecar and or bike check with us first to make sure that their are mounts made for it and that the sidecar is going to be a good match. Some sidecars by the time you make them safe for your bike are not such a good deal.
