Tom and everyone who feels technically challenged by Zoom,

If you post here with some regularity, you have more than adequate internet skill to participate in a zoom meeting.Β  All that was necessary is to click on the link that was provided and follow the instructions.Β  If you have a camera and microphone, either the ones built into your computer or separate ones you can be seen and be heard. Even without a camera or microphone you can still see and hear what's going on. If you don't have a computer, you can call in to the number provided, and enter the meeting code and password, also provided, and you'll be able to hear and speak. It even works with a land line.

But, I guess if we're too old, we're too old and shouldn't waste time trying new stuffΒ  ;^)

Well, I guess you gotta remember I'm the guy with the dog so I suppose we should try some new tricks at times. If you do another Zoom, I'll see if I can be there. I see that this sort of thing is all the rage for news reporters these days. It seems most have to set up in front of a book case. I guess that's possible too.... Another thought, the closest number for me to dial in looked like Tacoma. That's long distance. I wonder what charges are incurred.

Tom,

I don't know if you use a cell phone and if you do, what kind of a plan you're on but most cell plans offer unlimited voice and don't charge for long distance.Β  If that fits you, you can call in, listen and speak without incremental cost because to your phone company it's just another voice call.

The experience is better on a computer though.

Up until this year I didn't know sic'em about Zoom..Β  I'm still no candidate for being an expert, but I've spent scores of hours on Zoom, Webex, and Teams this year out of necessity.

Don't give up on the idea.Β  It may take a while, but I think it will catch on.Β  I concur with the idea that we need to know about the session more than two days before the event.

Thanks Al. I just put an app on my Win 10 computer to link Windows there to my cell phone. Got ready to give it a try and it told me I need Bluetooth. Right now it's easy to load photos from the phone to this computer but for the rest, including Zoom, I'm thinking, I'll need the USB Bluetooth. It's on order at Amazon right now. Perhaps when all is said and done, I'll see you all at the next Zoom meeting here on the big screen. Or at least my Win 10 monitor...

Tom,

If you have a microphone and speaker on your computer I don't feel that you need to connect your phone.Β  It's either the phone or the computer in most cases although I did once use the computer to see what's going on and my phone to speak when I had a bad microphone cable.Β Β

Well, I didn't participate because never having done Zoom before, I thought it was more complicated than it turns out to be. Yesterday afternoon we did a Zoom family meeting. Brothers, cousins and our sole remaining aunt and uncle. It was great! We visited for two hours. My point is, if ever the USCA decides to try again, I'll join in.

Now I'll edit this and add another comment. I joined the family group yesterday from my laptop in the shop. I'm running Win 7 pro on that one and it's the only one of the three computers I use regularly with a web camera. The evening of the USCA meeting, I was on my Win 10 computer in the house that doesn't have the capability. A little knowledge and experience goes a long way.

Β  Your choice. ButΒ  I would encourage you to Read every line in Zoom Licensing agreement . You agree by install it to give the your contacts list , pictures,Β  calendar everything.Β  In it they tell you they can keep the information as long as they wish and use it as they see fit.

This is on your computer , phone or any device. Your call. Doctors office here was using for video appointments . they dropped it soon after reading the agreement.

Thanks for the heads up Smitty. Of course I didn't read the fine print when I signed up. Time to re-consider now...
