Hi, I went to my insurance company (liberty mutual) to purchase insurance for my triumph / velorex rig. I was quite surprised to find out they will not insure the sidecar.... the bike, no problem. Liability and medical, no problem. Sidecar, no way they will cover it.
I phoned progressive and they will cover the sidecar as an accessory.
So, do any of you insure through progressive? If so, how has your experience been?

I was with Progressive for a few years until I found out Foremost through AARP saved me a bunch for the same or better coverage. And the sidecars are accessories on my policy.
I have Progressive coverage on the rig, sidecar as an accessory. I was rear ended by another motorcycle twelve years ago and they allowed me to purchase all new matching OEM parts and do the labor myself, paid me for my work using the flat rate manual. Saved me a bunch of aggravation as I live seventy-five miles from the dealer.
I'm not surprised Stan. In fact, Liberty has a television commercial out (at least I see it in my market) where a lady, standing in front of the Statue of Liberty complains that her previous insurer would only pay 3/4th of the cost to replace her automobile. She then quips that Liberty will cover the FULL replacement cost as "they don't want you riding around on three wheels." I can only assume they won't cover trikes either.
I went to my local credit union because they advertised Dairyland which I had used for years but they steered me to Safeco which gave my a better deal. I'm sure that both had covered my rig with the sidecar as an oversized saddlebag. I have had no accidents to test the coverage and don't want to but the cost savings was significant over State Farm.

I've been with progressive for 15 years. I've not had a claim, but rates seem reasonable on two riders, three bikes, and a tug; plus they covered the sidecar.

My Gold Wing got hailed on just a few days after I got Progressive and all I paid was the $100 deductible. That was 14 years ago and I've since added a sidecar as an accessory to the policy, very good company to work with. Total damage was $1700.
i have had progressive for 5 years .they told me that since my sidecar was an accessory to increase my accessory coverage.i upped it to $5000 .and then a pizza delivery girl slammed me..they paid me for the damage to the bike and paid me the 5 grand for the sidecar. they were good on settling it with a few minor problems .and when i told the girls insurannce company i wasnt going to sue they over nighted the $500 deducable.i also added $10,000 medical on my policy which was good because that ride to the hospital was $700 .
I have been with Progressive for many years and have found them great to work with. When I first got my Ural I was running down a county road up here and hit a rock in the road that punctured my oil pan. I didn't know it and 30 miles later the crank seized from a lack of oil. Progressive paid to have the motor rebuilt by the dealer with no questions asked. I also had a lady broad side my home built cargo tub on the GS and they cut me a check for $1,500.00 with no questions so I could build a new one.
Thanks for the info, I did decide to go with progressive, I was going to go with Safeco, but they are a liberty mutual company and to be honest, I'm kinda ed off at liberty right now
Just to put word out for anyone else who may be in my circumstance, Dairyland was the ONLY insurance company who would cover a non-US resident, US citizen, on a rig licenced in a US territory operating in the Continental US, albeit at a ruinous rate.
None of the biggies understood that a US Territory is part of the US, and firms that specialised in insuring non-US citizens knew their geography better.
Nationwide is good. They insured my sidecar with $7500 accessories coverage. That's as high as I could go. Not bad since the car is worth $10000 new. Progressive isn't bad but I dropped them a few years ago for personal reasons..

I have Progressive and they only go to $4000 in accessory coverage on mine , I checked into Riders Insurance(east coast only company) and they are $12 a year cheaper for insurance on 4 bikes and have a $6000 accessory coverage. I have a Velorex sidecar so progressive is fine for my coverage needs.
