Having recently purchased a BMW 1992 K100RS/EZ's rig I am wondering how others have went about insuring their rigs. I realize that all states have different

requirements but in general is an appraisal necessary/recommended? My title of course just shows plain ol BMW mc.

Any info , thoughts, tales of woe will be appreciated.

Oh yeah; I live in NC - where the insurance gangsters are extra greedy.

In NJ a sidecar is considered an accessory and comes under coverage for that. The insurance gangsters are greedy everyplace.

Many companies include up to $3K accessory coverage with the policy. I personally opt for the extra coverage to cover the hack if offered. Some also offer replacement cost insurance but that is pretty dearly priced.

I ride a K1200LT with a Hannigan 2+2 sidecar. To cover the sidecar I just upped the value for the accessories. I was lucky enough to discover motorcycle insurance through an AARP affiliate (Foremost). Premium went from $850 per year(Oppressive. Thanks Flo) down to $289 for the same coverage. It's good to have a perfect driving record and to be old!
