Hello,
I am looking into putting a side car on my 98 Harley Fatboy which is a soft tail. Will the soft tail suspension operate correctly to give a ok ride? I understand the rack triple trees for steering but want to make sure I am starting a good project.
I like the looks of this off road side car but would like advice on any other model simular, and the benefits? Is there a better retail price some where else?
Thank you for your time.

Hi Nate, I have an '03 Fatboy with a Champion Legend car on it. Everything works fine in the suspension department. Occasionally, if I hit a bump (cattle guard, steep driveway, etc.) wrong, I will drag the rear sidecar mount. I did modify Champions rear mount to make it less messy to change the oil, welded on 2 bars front and back to make the mount wider, drilled a 1 1/2" hole through the mount and welded a short pipe section in under the drain plug as a stiffener for the perimeter of the hole and to dissipate any stresses that might be introduced by the hole. The bars are 3/8" thick by 1" wide and cut at a 45 at each end to meet the mount at the mounting brackets. I talked with Champion about the mod before hand and they said it was a good idea. They must not do it that way because it costs a little more.

You forgot the attachment, or it didn't come through, for the sidecar you want to install.

The sidecar in your photo is our M72D sidecar, We also make a version of it called the M72C which sits lower, runs a Harley type wheel, fender and tail light and would work better on your bike. If you need a little more room our M72CX is the same sidecar but 4 inches wider. These are on sale until the end of the month for 20% off making the base price on the M72C only $3996. The price includes bike specific NOT universal mounting hardware for your bike. The M72 type sidecars are some of the easiest sidecars to get in and out of due to the step built into the frame, the cut out on the body and if you have the windshield it folds forward out of the way. These sidecars also have a trunk that opens from the out side which is much nicer to live with then trunks that you remove the seat back to get into. For your bike we also offer triple tree's to lower the steering effort and if you change over to pipes that come down both sides of the bike we even have reverse for the transmission. We have built many softtails they work out well with the sidecar.
Give me a call if you like and we can go over options and pricing.

Take a look at Liberty sidecars too, they have a lot of pictures of their sidecars on softails.

Here's one with a Chang Jiang mounted. A URAL or Dnepr would look about the same.
