I got the Valkyrie out today

For her maiden trip with the new Ural. I wasn't expecting 50 degrees in January, but I'm not complaining.
The ride was good. It's mounted about 6 inches closer to the bike than the Dnepr was and I can really feel the difference. It's much lighter and more responsive feeling. Pulls a little to the right on the Interstate but feels good on the County roads.
That's a slick lookin' rig!
Was the 6 inch difference due to mounting or narrower sidecar frame?

All mounting. Wasn't even planned, normally I like a wide stance for stability. I was laying under it adjusting the left and right level of the car and it just pulled in much farther than the other one did.
I think, when we cut off the front mount and welded the sleeve on we did a better job this time. Last time we cut it off flush and butt welded the pinch collar. This time we cut away half of the pipe and layed the collar into it to weld. In doing so we eliminated the flat spot on the pipe which allows the clamp to move in much farther.
Looks good!!!!!
anytime we can get out in the winter its a bonus!!!!!!Keep us informed if you make any adjustments.
I reset the pinch sleeves on a F650/URAL for a 3 inches closer car and the owner said there was a noticeable difference in steering effort.
Stepping the sleeve weld also makes a stronger weldment than the butt weld.
The reinforcement is built in.

Hi Mike,
To change the subject on you. How about putting a quick mount fuel tank on that spare tire?

I thought about something like this, http://tinyurl.com/b4r7a but then I'm back to messing with hoses and valves or stopping to refill. I can do that at a gas station. I want something that will allow me 250 miles between stops. I expect I'll just go on stopping until I find something I like or can afford to have one made for under the tub. What do you have in mind?
I'd have to agree that's too much messing around. I used the Tour Tank that looks like a bed roll mounted to the luggage rack on the Velorex and plumbed through a valve, that comes with it, filter, and tee'd into the bike's fuel line just ahead of the fuel pump. I run it down first and then switch on the main tank. It helps keep the car down on right handers and times my fuel stops with the solo riders I ride with. Just don't turn on the main tank at the same time unless it's down the same amount as the extra tank holds. I'm always full of ideas, some work some don't.

What kind of saddle are you using to allow 250 miles at a clip? I am replacing my BMW leather comfort saddle with a Russel Day-Long. Any thoughts?

I had a Russell on my TourGlide. Nice seat. I'd like to hang something like that on here but really can't afford it right now. The Valkyrie still has the stock seat. It's comfortable though. When my son smashed his face up in a bike (bicycle) accident, I made the 400 mile round trip to Madison and back a number of times. In fact, after his surgery I did it twice in one day, but that was a bit much.
I was looking at the Ultimate Bigboy, but can't swing the $850.
I'm having a new solo saddle made up by a local shop here , called Cycle Empire. They guarantee it to be comfy for long trips. It will have a Gel pad over the foam. I'll let you know how it turns out. he will call when the seat is shaped, and told me to take it home and put it on the bike and see how everything fits..shape, width, length, ETC. He will make any mods I think are necessary when I return It for finishing.

Take it for a long ride. I had a seat built for my Aspencade. Felt like a pillow when I first sat on it. Fifty miles later it felt like a rock. Next seat was very stiff, but 500 miles later it was still comfortable. Course, a little guy like you shouldn't need much padding. :0)
