Hi gang, I am a NEW member but longtime (20 yrs?) Sidecar rider looking to replace my trusty tug, a 1985 K100RS with homemade sidecar. Bike also has Earle's front by Lowell Neff, two-way electric solenoid handshifter (I am fulltime, longtime wheelchair user), and high or standard bars.. car is simple, low-mounted design with old VW air shock suspension and flat platform between the bike and sidecar for wheelchair transport. Would a late 90's early 00's K1200 RS be a good replacement? I like the sportier looks of the RS but don't know how practical it would be compared with the LT or another (gasp!) brand. Thanks for any and all input, Guy K, Tucson, AZ.

Not to hi-jack your thread but maybe some of the BMW riders could give some pro's and cons of the R1200 (X's) models and the R1100 or R1150GS' I am looking in this direction also.

And just to add a litttle more info into one post what were the pluses and minuses of your K100 ?

Thanks for the reply, Sturgis, and thanks for hijacking my (nonexistent) thread. I am new to these types of forums and could use the help. I am open to any and all suggestions for a better sidecar riding experience, as well as about different types of bike. I only remarked about the beemer because its the only bike I've ever been able to ride since my car accident many years ago. I bought my rig, affectionately called the Blue Max, from a fellow disabled rider who built it from scratch (with help from his pal and local BMW dealer) from a wrecked 85 K100RS in the late 80s. I loved being able to ride again, but am now limited to short rides 3-4 hrs max due to chronic back pain. Pluses: dependable, smooth power. Minuses: high seat height for wheelchair to bike transfers, engine heat (esp here in Az), tricky handling w homemade setup, and am having probe w electric shifter recently. Am interested in any input from you guys.

a k1200 GT may be a good compromise. Good seating, bar relationship may be more comfortable. 02 and up bikes with power brakes may be a plus for you.
