How much is this sidecar worth (just the sidecar)? Has normal wear.

We use to import these sidecars, we have a limited supply of some spare parts still and can provide bike specific mounting hardware for many different bikes. The factory no longer exists. What is worth depends on where it is at, This one has had at least the top half repainted. BTW, the "hoop" that looks like a roll bar is for the soft top, this one is installed backwards, it should face forward if you want the top to fit.

We still have a few tops, we may be getting another container load of NOS Sputnik sidecars. They will sell for $2995 and include bike specific mounting hardware. We are taking $500 refundable deposits to hold one of these sidecars. They do run a 17mm axle and as such we do not like to run them on large touring bikes, the weak point on these sidecars has always been the wheel. The sidecars we are working on will not have the Russian wheel as there are none. We are working with a couple of other venders at this time to try and find a good value on wheels.
BTW for the Stone we not only make bike specific mounts but we also make new from billet triple tree's as one of my wife's Guzzi's is an EV
Any one responding to this post, please check the date of the post. The last time I posted about getting a container of Sputnik sidecars was 14 years ago, people still respond to that post wanting to buy one.

Jay, do you still have these? Are they adaptable to a V-Strom?

We do not have any Sputnik sidecars, we may still get some more come spring however it turns out that the company wishing to sell these to us does not have wheels for them so we will have to work out the wheel issue.
How about going with our M72B sidecar? $3995 and comes with the proper mounts for the V Strom. While I have no photo's of the M72B on a V strom I do have photo's of an M72D which uses the same basic body. I am attaching a photo. The one in the photo also has our "Leading" legs on the front.

That Sputnik looks like a variation on the 562 Velorex. Given how everything in the USSR was and now in Russia is, just a variation on a theme, I would think that in this case, they took the 562 and added the hinged nose.

If you like the look of that rig, why not just by a 562?

Rob

Rob, where as the Sputnik may look a bit like a Velorex 562 that is where the similarities end. The Sputnik is a steel sidecar where the Velorex is a combination of plastic and very thin fiberglass. The chassis on the Sputnik is much more robust then the Velorex and it has proper mounting system on the sidecar where the Velorex has a sliding clamp for the lower rear that is known to slip and uses struts on the lower mounts which tend to pivot at the joints. The Sputnik is also a bit larger heavier sidecar. I have no issue mounting Sputnik sidecars on medium sized bikes where as the Velorex really should stay on small bikes. Fit and finish is a bit nicer on the Velorex then the Sputnik but for most applications the Sputnik is a better choice. When we mount Sputnik sidecars we use a proper "Boss and Clamp" lower mount system where on the Velorex we end up having to do welding and change it over to proper mounts in order to keep it from slipping and in order to be able to set wheel lead as Velorex does not have a satisfactory way to set wheel lead. At this link you will get an idea of what we do and why http://www.dmcsidecars.com/the-result-of-improper-sidecar-mounting-and-the-proper-fix/

Hi-- HD Hank here---I have had a Sputnik hack attached to my HD fxr for several years and really enjoy the fact that it's something "different". I made a new swing arm out of 2in./ 1/4in sq. tubing, using a tractor supply trailer stub axle [ 5 bolt hub 1 in. axle] and got a nice 15 in. aluminum wheel, a 500./16 tire from Coker, made my own mounts- painted it to match my bike, and ride and enjoy it as much as possible. If you get one and want to make your own mounts, contact me and I'll tell/ show you how I made my hookup. My wife really likes the ease of getting in/or out of this one as compared to what's required with some brands.

If you do end up making your own mounts (we can also supply mounts as well as parts) one nice thing about the Sputnik sidecars is that the metric sized tubing needed to slide into the sidecar frame is so close to 1 inch pipe as to not matter.

Well, I'm definitely showing my ignorance here. Thanks for the info. To be honest, I never would have expected a sidecar with that name to look like that. I was expecting something more 50's spaceship looking.

Rob
