Help please - question re trailering
I have a Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad 1700 with a Hannigan Astro GT sidecar. I am looking for a trailer for the rig to tow behind a motorhome. Because of the width of the rig overall and interference with the inner wheel boxes, a conventional cargo trailer will not work, even in the 8.5' width. I have been looking at deck-over-wheels snowmobile trailers, which offer the width that I need to be able to get the rig into the trailer and then dismount. They are also available in shorter lengths.
My question has to do with the ability to load the rig onto the trailer. The trailers that I am looking at have a deck height of around 28 to 30 inches. I am concerned about the angle of the ramp. Getting started uphill does not seem to be a problem based on a test that I ran with a smaller trailer, but I am concerned about getting over the top of the ramp and into the trailer without scraping the bottom of the bike. Most of the trailers have a rear ramp door that is about six feet tall, and it is also possible to put a fold down extension on the door, so I could make the ramp eight feet or so long.
Can anyone offer any advice on how loading onto a trailer with this type of ramp angle might work out? I live in Florida and snowmobile trailers are hard to come across to try a test:)) Thanks in advance for any help!
