Hi all, I'm brand new to motorcycling and sidecars. Made a rather impulsive purchase recently on a 1972 BMW R75/5 with a mystery rig. Nobody seems able to ID the sidecar; I'm hoping I came to the right place. Furthermore, are there any sidecar specialists in the New York tristate area that can help me reattach my rig? I have been told that the hack I recently purchased is a complete... hack job. I'm told also it's a miracle it survived the ride from Asheville, NC to my home in Brooklyn.

There as you know are some issues with the mounting, First it should have a 4th mount at the rear. I can not tell if it was mounted with sub frames or not, the BMW frame tubing is much thinner then one would think it should be and as such if you simply clamp a sidecar to it over time the frame of the bike will fail. Also on the /5 the down tubes are oval not round so a clamp on the frame does not work well at all. We make a sub frame kit specific to this bike, with it if you have "OK" mechanical skills you should be able to reattach the sidecar proper. You will of course also need a strut for the upper rear which we can also supply.

Thanks a million! I really appreciate your guidance as well as the information you provided. I'm concerned enough that I'd like to have an expert see the thing in person before I commit to buying more things, but if it turns out I need that rig, I will be using DMC. I also may need someone with a torch cutter to remove some bad welding. How does one know when a bike frame is failing? When it breaks in the middle of a ride? I sure hope not. Do you suggest I remove the Eagle and attach it to a different bike?

This sidecar will work very well on your bike with sub fames, If it was welded on look next to the welds as cracks happen not at the weld but along side. If it was clamped, look next to the clamps, if no cracks are showing chances are you are good to go.
