Just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself. Never thought I would own a hack, but having a daughter in 2004 changed the whole game plan. I have a 2005 flhtci w/2002 tle sidecar and have about 4k miles with the family aboard. Hals books were very helpful in getting me to take the plunge. Looking forward to this years riding season, hopefully will meet some of you at Americade in June. Thanks. Chris

Hi, Chris,
Welcome aboard the SC wagon! Fun!!!!
I dont want to rain on your parade, but just checking...make sure Momma is in the SC with the baby..not on the pillion seat, with baby in the SC.
baby needs all the help he/she can get, including a helmet, and seat belt for Momma, to prevent ,momma from crushing the baby in a quick decell situation.
very precious carge there!

ride safe....

Hello and welcome!
Another factory Harley sidecar rig. How do you like it? It's really cool to see more folks getting into this subcult of the motorcycle world!

Vernon, I like the HD sidecar rig alot. Originally I was looking into putting a ural car on but my wife wasn't sold on the open door frame. I did the install myself, added a quick disconnect on the brake line and a Jagg ten row oil cooler. If anyone is looking into adding a hd sidecar, my advice is to get the HD service manual for sidecars. It has a wealth of info pertaining to what fits and bike specific adaptor kits. I can disconnect the car alone in about twenty minutes, putting the car back on takes two, but it is helpful to have a third person on hand. I set the toe-in at 3/4" and 1 degree lean in. Later I changed the lean in to 0 degrees. The bike engine is stock for now, looking to add some performance mods in the near future. On the whole I am very happy with how the rig handles and performs. Regards Chris

lean IN??!! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
Have you noticed any odd handling with the bike having suspension under it but the sidecar chassis being unsuspended? I've always been curious about that.

On some models Harley recommends Lean-in. This is without a laden bike or sidecar so ideally once all are aboard the rig and since there is no sidecar frame suspension there will be about 1 degree of leanout. Most suspended rigs start with about 1 degree of leam-out.
I set my Harleys at 1 degree leanout with me aboard. Works just like "Lectric".

AAah, I see where you're going now. Laden/unladen.
So, any issues with the hack being unsuspended with the bike suspended? That always struck me as odd.

After messing with various set ups on my 04 FLHRSI and TLE I ended up with 1 degree lean out unladden and 3/4 inch toe in (or there abouts depending on how one measures) which seems to work well. This is my only experience with a hack so I don't know what the ride would be like with a chair with suspesion. I can tell you this though; I feel every bump that side car wheel hits! Actually, a Road King Custom does not have alot of suspension travel anyway so I feel every bump any wheel hits!

Note to self, do NOT ever test ride a chair with suspension because I will want one.
