I have a BMW Montauk pulling a Champion Escort. We have over 26K on the rig in the first two years, and really like it. We "inherited" a 100 lb. Bouvier des Flanders dog, which we have now grown so close to that we hate to leave her even for work. Problem: She and the wife can't both fit comfortable for any length of time together in the hack. All of the doubles I have seen so far offer only 7" of additional hip width. I have a good friend and dog lover that suggested a pull behind trailer. But you would need some kind of restraining system or something to keep her in. Any of you encountered this "problem"? And no, the wife on the back seat won't work. Some kind of open/closeable trailer with good ventilation and a restraining system for a 100 lb dog with maybe enough room for her big bag of dog chow and water bowel would really be great. Yout thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

I saw a trailer a few years ago that a couple from ohio pulled with a solo bike that held a pair of labs.

It was a homemade affair that was sort of a couple large kennel carrier type boxes that had vents that could open and add air on a hot day and close for a cool day. The dogs slep in the trailer at night and seemed quite happy with the arraingment.

When I need room for my dogs I leave my wife home.

Shouldn't be that big of a deal to make something up Jim. Anything from a dog box on an inexpensive Harbor Freight type trailer to a fully one off build could probably do the job for you.
We will be fabricating a one off trailer soon to haul an electric wheelchair behind a HPS rig. It will have a fully enclosed aluminum body, Mini Cooper wheels, dual swingarm suspension with coil over shocks incorporated to an electric ride height control system that can set the trailer down on the ground to negate the need for ramps. It will also have an anti swaybar on it. Should be interesting.
Let your imagination run wild while trying to think like a happy dog 🙂

If you are willing to look at another sidecar, some of the Watsonians are huge with fore and aft seating. I think you could make one of these do. Doug Bingham at SideStryder carries this marque, I believe.

Yes, google sidestrider.com or Watsonian Cambridge or Watsonian Oxford.
You could also do a coach type sidecar body on your frame..see sidestrider for the ones Doug has done.

Uber

I would be concerned with fumes, even with good ventilation. Back before sidecars I once had a passenger on the back of my bike overcome by fumes in slow moving traffic. We encountered an unexpected construction zone slow down and she got very very sick. It would be much worse behind the bike.

Mike, I have hauled mine several times. Once all the way from WI to Detroit. My two pups ride in the largest airline approved kennel that is fastened to the top of my travel camper trailer. This seems to work well, they seem to enjoy it and is the only way with my sidecar. I'll probably have them along at SKUNK RALLY 2007. Fred F.

Hi Ernie, if you go to the dog memebership area you'll see Archie. We still have to get his patch sewn on his jacket... A real biker dog, he is. We don't have the problem Uber does because Barb chooses not to ride any longer. When any of the grandkids go though, Archie stays home. That's not often.

I thought that mug looked familiar. Rosie nor I can afford to join up right now, but we sent some pix into the woofmeister (or whatever it was). Rosie has a tendency to want to walk onto the nose of the SC, so she only goes when Kathleen is there to hang on to her. Wish Kathleen got that excited about riding!
