HARLEY TLE IS THIS A GOOD DEAL
I have a chance to get a 08 tle with about 1000 miles on it and painted 105th anneversiary colors to match my bike for $5500.00 all hardware included, what do you guys think. I think it's a pretty good deal but would like to hear your opinions.
Grab it Before it gets away
Sounds like a great deal. Don't let it get away. I shopped for a long time looking for mine and ended up buying a 95 TLE Ultra for $1800. All the "Ultra" stuff was pretty much gone though.) After a new tire, paint, powder coating the frame, recovering the seat, new carpet, windshield and other odds and ends, I've got about $4000 in it. Took about 4 months to finish. The only advantage to doing it a piece at a time is my wife still thinks it's an $1800 sidecar. 🙂
Fastblueheeler, Hope your wife does not read these posts or you will be busted!

$5,500 is not a bad price, but only with all of the hardware. A new TLE in black is $7,300 with stripes to match a black Ultra bike with all hardware in the crate from the factory. That's what I bought. It took 6 weeks for delivery. The anniversary colors (two tone) would be another $1,000 or so. If you wanted the TLE/Ultra sidecar, they are about $10,000 or so.
Connections kit (hardware) includes:
1. Sidecar brake kit with master cylinder, remote reservoir and brake pedal.
2. All three mounts.
3. Rollover conversion switch and cable tor TSSM conversion to sidecar.
4. Sidecar clutch cable (6" longer or so to go under the motor to miss the brake and mounts)
Happy Trails.
P.S. I'd tell the wife everything. It's the test of a good marriage. LOL.

Going on 22 years I tell her everything........about half usually test's the marriage that's the motorcycle stuff half that I drag home ....LOL
It has all the hardware with it,and I have a couple more questions how hard of a job is it to hook up everything and can you put a light on it like they have on the Liberty's ?
It's a good bit of work to hook up. Mine went on a '99 Road King, Yours will be somewhat different. Does it have a manual with it? You'll need that.
I had to put a remote rear master cylinder reservoir and a longer clutch cable on the bike. I think you will need a different (shorter) brake pedal. Rough guess- $400 to $500 parts and labor if the dealer does it. The rear mount is the hardest - the exhaust has to come off. I had to remove the Voltage regulator for the front lower mount to get it on. The front upper is easy as is the plate the steering damper bolts to under the front forks. There should be an adapter to plug in under the seat for the lights. Mine was a well used unit and the wires were cut. I had to get deutsch connectors and redo the wiring harness. I think you will have some kind of lean sensor thing to deal with as well - I didn't have that. Then it's just the 3 big bolts and the steering damper to hook it up. Also there will be a tee connector for the rear brake line and then bleeding the brakes. Then there's the set up, toe in and lean, etc. The manual explains that pretty well as do many posts on this forum (search). Probably could do it all in a weekend if you're mechanical. Several weekends for me. I'm not sure you could hang a light on it like the Liberty because of the curve of the body. Seems it would end up being cocked one way or the other.
BTW guys, the comment about hiding the cost from the wife was just a joke. She's the ultimate enabler for my hobbies. She wants a spoke wheel to match the ones on the bike and I'm the one balking at the cost.
We joke about the "reason for selling - evil wife" ads we see on ebay and craigslist all the time.
Thanks for the info Fastblue, where is Lucas Tx. I'm in Montgomery Tx just west of Conroe.
Lucas is about 30 miles north of Dallas off 75. I'm pretty new to this sidecar thing. Been practicing for a couple of weeks on back roads. Today was the first time my wife rode in it and my first time to carry a passenger. We went down to a school parking lot so we could get the feel of it without traffic. She liked it! We didn't get much riding done though. First a guy in a really nice 71 Vette stopped to look it over and talk for awhile then a group of sportbike guys stopped to look at it.
I will definatley be doing alot of practice rides, been riding for about 35 years but I guess I have to through most of that knowlage out the window from what I've been reading. It seems like a sidecar rig gets alot of attension,I sure hope I can get the money together quick to buy the TLE,I think it's a pretty good buy from what I've been seeing the last couple of months that I have been looking.
I read a lot about two wheel experience not doing you any good too. It's true. The first 100 yards or so scared me to death. it just felt so weird. I've been riding since I was 14........ 49 years, motocross and flat track in my 20s, none of that helped. But I'm hooked now, I love it.
Sounds like a great deal. The clincher is the paint. You'll save a bundle not having to paint the sidecar.
Yes being the color to match my bike is definatly a clincher, Maybe we can get together next year after I get the rig home and hooked up and start practicing,by then you should be great at riding yours and we are in the same state just a few hours apart. Did you hook up your rig yourself? If so maybe I can bug you for some advice if you don't mind.
Sounds good! I have a friend in Cypress and he and I meet up from time to time for a weekend ride. I did set it up myself using the manual and everything I could read on this forum. It feels pretty good, tracks straight on a level road and so on. Feel free to bug me. I'm no expert but have been through it. This forum is a great source of information. There are some really knowledgeable, super-nice folks here
