Guess Who’s learning something, LDuck

DBrochu, At highway speeds, 60 to 70 MPH, the bike is pulling hard to the right.

Claude, Do not be too concerned with what 'the book' says.

DBrochu, The lean out and toe in were set up by the dealer. The bike tracks true with very little effort at anything other than highway speeds.

Solomito, I also recently purchased a new Ultra Classic with a TLE Ultra sidecar and have the same problem, except much worse.

Hack’n, I'm now driving a '98 FLHRCI with factory TLE sidecar. The last of the Evolutions, with the Stage II Screamin' Eagle package and it pulls fine.
After wearing my arms out even on straight roads, I have a set of Liberty Sidecar 5% raked triple trees on it now and it's like power steering.

Joecapy,,HELLO, I HAVE BEEN THERE TO, 94 FLHT TLE SIDECAR. THE LIBERTY SIDECAR 5% RAKED TREES ARE THE WAY TO GO

SidecarLenny, Listen to Lonnie and give Pete a call at Liberty sidecars !!! That 5 degree
triple tree rake will make a world of difference!!

EVERYBODY says, do not ride a passenger on the back of the bike with an empty sidecar......

Roger, “Because we have 15 cubic feet of storage, with luggage she can ride on the back all day”

LDuck, around here when you tell a teenager that’s slouching in a chair to “SETUP” he will respond with, “ ah man we was way loose tonight”

Highway, If you start thinking to much about all this crap you'll be in the Funeral Home or someone else will be cuz you were not paying attention to riding. Hint # 1 about riding your new Hack ...get on it ride it feel it learn to be one.

Highway, infromation from the Motor Company, if your wife (150#) rides as a passenger on the bike you would need a hack passenger or weight equivalent to weigh 300#.

Duck,
Tires are the same ...stock..mine is all stock execpt for th eHD big bore to 95" all else is 100% stock. It will top out about 104 mph witht he car.
As for braking it is the same as with anything....faster you go the more breaking distance you need. I use the front break 99% of the time more than the back break. Only time i use the back break more is if i am in the twisties and mountians and that goes for both two or three wheelers.ride it you'll get the feel of it.

Braking:
I prefer front braking on a solo unless low traction conditions exist (ice, snow, gravel, grass, wet leaves, etc.), then I use both brakes.
With the Harley hack, I use both brakes (all three) to stop and the transmission for most other speed adjustments. Shifting up or down as traffic conditions warrant so that I'm in a proper gear for performance if the situation requires it.

Hey Hackin,

ever heard of anyone useing bigger bars (wider) for more leverage in stead of a 5* rake modification? Just another mind wandering idea I had going through the twisties yesterday

Wider bars, moving the forks up through the triple trees, smaller dismeter front tire and raising the rear of the bike slightly all will make for easier steering. No magic here but in conjunction with one another it does help.

Duck,
I use wider bars often on Harleys, especially the FX and XL models with "drag" style or those miserable Buckhorn bars. Take a look at the bars on the Sporty rig I have for sale here. The H-D Wide Glide bars are my favorites, though. Unlike the Buckhorns, they put the pressure on your shoulders instead of your elbows. Almost all Beemer models are also "underbarred" for sidehacking in my estimation.
The main limitation for longer bars on any bike is the length of the throttle, clutch and brake controls. It gets pretty pricey changing all those elements if too short.

Claude,
Ever tried sliding the fork tubes up on a late model Electra Glide? How about a little skinny front tire? (Sorry, couldn't pass that up, I'm sure you'll get me back soon LOL).

Okay Okay I was talking in general.
I will admit to sliding the forks up through the trees on a GL1000 one time and heading out to my buddys shop only to hear this clunking noise from time to time. I was happy at how much easier the steering was until I got there and found out the clunking was the fender killing the radiator. Of course there had to be the usual group of guys standing around to witness all of this. I got off the steaming and wheezing rig and put my pipe in my vest pocket. Well during all of the harrasment from the guys and the laughing going on I began to smell a new smell and found out the pipe had set my vest pocket on fire. Bad day for me that for some reason turned into one of those often repeated but dreaded 'remember the time stories'. There are limits and sometimes finding them the hard way is pretty embarrasing.
But of course, Lonnie, I am sure you can't relate to these type of things ...right?...LOL.

Hack’n, you look like you’re workin pretty hard on being the arlen ness of hacken nice lookin stuff sir!

I snatched this photo (cow in hack ) from a site “side strider” or a link from that site ( I think) anyway,,,,,,point is not everyone has the same purpose in mind for their hack, I’m bettin the guy with the cow has at least a special break setup. The purpose for our hack as I’ve said before is primarily luggage, we ‘re planning a trip to the keys this winter and to Halifax in the summer and need to carry more stuff??? This rig has about broke the bank but looks like the triple tree is a must, the handle bar idea would put some of the stuff I got laying around here to use though.

Ya’ll got some stuff on this site I gotta go look through, photos etc.
