I have an April date for adding the LT sc to my 99 K1200LTi at Murray, Ky. The standard windshield is the "full wrap" and the "Open concept" has the soft roadster like 1/4 windows. Those of you who have either one is the contents of the car more "available" to a thief from the "Open Concept" compared to the "full wrap"?
If you stow the HT does that provide enough ventilation with the "full wrap" around w/s to not get too much static from the "minister-of-finance" and/or "she who must be obeyed"? This model comes with vent slots and a 3 speed fan but I don't know how anemic these might be.

And, lastly, which one looks better IYAO?

Hey TD, I also have an April appointment (the 23rd) to get a GTL on my new Wing. Pretty sure these are basically the same SC, the GTL just has a little trim to match the Wing.

As I posted a few days ago, Miloh has the GTL with the open concept. I looked at it last Sunday, took it for a short spin.

We decided the open concept was for us, Connie wanted the ability for a more "open air" feel, and it still has side cutains in inclement weather.

Re security, we felt that most stuff is locked in the trunk, we usually dont leave stuff in the sc anyway (certainly nothing valuable). However, I would presume that with the fill windshield and roof on, it would be more difficult to get into. The WIng also has quite a bit of lockable storage, as does your LT (I think).

Also, we both agreed the open concept, for us, looked better. Obviously this is just personal, they both are pretty sweet.

What date are you there?

regards, greg

Greg,
Thanks for the reply! one week earlier (16th). I just wonder if the full wrap w/s would be too much of a "goldfish bowl". Apparently, the hatch can be locked from the secure trunk. And, if the 1/4 windows are breached then only something in reach could be swiped? I don't know if the bad guy could reach in far enough through a 1/4 window and unlock the locked hatch or not?

You getting the shorter ie reduced trail?

Carl, not sure I understood what you meant re: locking? Could you clarify? Can the trunk we opened from inside? If so, I didn't really focus on that, however, I agree with your concerns about the "goldfish" bowl on the wrap around.

Connie love the open air.

Yes, I am getting the reduced trail triple tree. I have talked with several guys w/ Wings who have this and they all say the Wing rides very nice with it. The one I rode had it, and it really handles nice. Also, they also say the WIng handles fine even without the SC.

I don't know how often I will actually take the car off, but I like the ability to do it.

I have the LT with the open windshield. There is a latch in the truck to lock the hatch down but if someone wants to take something from inside the car the can. The trunk is very large so I store most things there. We do leave my wifes blankets etc in the car but have never had any think taken. My wife likes the open sides and when I have my dog in the car he also likes the open sides. I got the sidecar Sept. 2004 and think it is great. I like the removal hard top also.

the deadbolt for the hatch secures in the locked position with velcro, unless someone realy knows what they are looking for, they probably wont figure it out. as long as the valuable stuff is in the trunk, you shouldn't have any problems.

Zentime, Greg, Milow, Dave, and Claude.......... I hope I haven't missed one! Thanks a million for your incite. I guess with the "open concept" that fly rod or bow (archery) or shotgun just has to have some other means of security when away from the rig. It seems the "full wrap", as one would expect, would have a greater degree of being secure. I may have to fabricate a lockable "long box" or similar.............. oooooh?! Or, this could nececesitate a "NEW" fly rod (shorter sections) and "new" shorter bow, etc. that would store in the trunk. I am beginning to see some advantages in this problem. Apparently, the bolt (sliding?) that can be locked from the secure trunk extends thru into the hatch area and can be unlocked by reaching thru the 1/4 window of the "Open Concept". Great ideas from all of you and it is appreciated! Anything that I might use also would be appreciated if you would tag on your idea. I am a pretty good mechanic but the sc thing is a whole new deal for me.

I've got the full-windshield version on my GL-1800 with about 20,000+ miles logged in the last 18 months, which includes one 5000 mile trip to Massachusetts. The vent and 3-speed blower (I much recommend the 3-speed blower!) do a good job for the most part, but since I live in Houston and it gets REALLY HOT !!! here in the summer I also have evaporative vests. I personally like the full windshield because I can lock up the side car. If you use a windshield sun-screen gizmo when you are parked, like those we use in our cars & trucks, then folks can't see inside and be tempted... I keep things like my leathers and a sleeping bag (light, but bulky and would take up too much room in the trunk...) in the nose of the sidecar, so I keep it locked up when I stop for lunch, tourist traps, etc. My passenger, the Supreme Allied Commander (aka; wife) wants to replace the tinted windshield with a clear one so the view out is better. I agree, but just personal preference. Someone would have to be really good to unlock the sidecar without getting into the trunk first, as that is where the locking mechanism is actuated; simple screen-door latch that pokes thru a hole in the sidecar hatch-part that is lifted to get inside. Good questions to ask and think about before you take delivery. I recommend the front spoiler option to keep the sidecar nose firmly down if you plan on riding at freeway speeds with much crosswinds or headwinds. Seems to help to me... I've been really happy with my rig, and I think you will be quite happy with the setup you have chosen.

Re: the 3 speed blower, do you the one which comes standard (at least noew it does) or do you mean the "air conditioning" unit which works with ice water ?

Yea, it was me that called you. Will send pm w/ph#... I have the 3-speed blower, but not the ice water cooler. Never actually saw one of the cooler units, but think it would take up too much room in the trunk for me. I pack the trunk full on regular occasions. However, some of my fellow engineering-type buddies and I have brainstormed how we could rig up a full-blown a/c using an industrial fridge or freezer compressor, suitable heat exchangers and a car battery. Will let you know if we every really get the time to implement...
