I'm finally starting down a long delayed project path...putting a '79 GL1000 back together and mount a sidecar on it. I have a lead on a serviceable Velorex 700 that fits the project budget. Could this combination make an acceptable first rig? I'm an experienced 2 wheel rider but new to 3. I have training help lined up and won't neglect that aspect. What I need are comments regarding: a) can the 700 work adequately on the GL1000, or if not, suggested alternative cars? and b) specific things to do, avoid, or watch out for?

Thanks for your patience with yet another newcomer's questions.

Many Velorex 700's have been installed on the GL1000s, 1100's and 1200,s.
The pre 2005 models should have the suspension upgraded to support the tall, heavy, bike well and ballast will be needed for a stable ride.
The earlier model (pre 2005) 700S have a 15mm axle and very light suspension setup designed to support a 500cc bike.
We have a bolt on suspension upgrade available for the early Velorex's.

The Velorex 700 is a little heavier than the 562 but still pretty light. It also has a soft suspension. Neither of these traits are in your favor. We have, however, done quite a few velorex conversions to larger axle, 15" car wheel or 12" wheel and torsion bar suspension that has a manual tilt adjuster that can make them work really good. Stock Mounts are not the best but can be made to work. We are in central Pa.
