I find that the sidecar significantly affects mileage. Also, how fast I am driving really makes adifference. I average high 20s on both rigs ( V Strom and Goldwing), can get better if going slower, but rarely better than 31-32. Yesterday, returning to LA from Prescott, Az, with a really stiff headwind (30+) I think I got about 20, which is the worst I have ever got (I was on the interstate 40 with the Wing).

My K1100LT (2 wheeler) gets 50 mpg. My K1200LT as a 2 wheeler got 50 mpg. Both of my BMW's have many thousands of logged miles that mostly see or have seen 60-65 mph on freeways and something slower on local roads when conditions permit. Now with 1 year of various long distance and short local excursions my K1200LT (now with a KLT Hannigan sidecar) that mileage has been 40 mpg and particularly if bucking head winds 35 mpg or so. Obviously at these speeds I seldom pass anybody but frequent the right lane and am happy to be amongst the slower group along our highways. Recently returning from Turkey Hunting I fit very well with a growing que of "over-the-road" truckers and cars traveling a true 55 mph (about 61 indicated). Slowing our speeds certainly helps on extending our mileage especially considering how much a gallon costs these days.

GL1800 with Champion Escort. 2 Up with three Heelers in the Car and 50 to 100 lbs in the trunk.

27 MPG City, Mid 30's in the Colorado Mountains and Mid to Low 20's on the Slab at 75+.

Add the Trailer and on a good day I can get 25 MPG at 65 mph.

Worst ever was 22 MPG @ 65 MPH with all the above including the KwikKamp in TX with heavy side winds. ;-0

I hate to think what it would be with the same stuff on a GL1500 without FI....

My '99 Victory, 92cubic inches, gets about 35 to 38 mpg on two wheels and around 30 to 33 with sidecar attached.

At freeway speeds, about 35 mpg. Honda VTX1300 and a Velorex 563 Tour.

Reinhardt,
you are the first who wins mine.
Jawa 350 / velorex without screen
55mpg (4,3l/100km) to 61mpg (3,85l/100km)
long term average 56mpg (4,2l/100km)
Plus I need 1/2l (1/8gal) oil per tank = 380-420km
travel speed is normally 75-95km/h (47-59mph)
More anyhow is dangerous in Costa Rican mountains.

Sven Peter

Now that I made over the weekend a similar trip to "San Vito de Java" as on first January last year, but this time without the sidecar and without passenger I can tell that the gas mileage or consume is not as much influenced by the rig as I always thought. It seems more defined by the engine then the sidecar. Imagine that my consume was 3,49l/100km = 67,7 miles per galon. Compared to the average consume with the sidecar of 4,2l/100km = 56,25mpg that is only 20% more then the solo bike. I always thought the difference would be much more.

By the way the hardest step up (from 400m to 3300m in 25 km) where I had to stop and cool down last year with a 115kg passenger 8 times during the night at daytime driving single I still had to stop 5 times.

Means to me the Jawa 350 is a reliquary and for sure I have to look for something beefier as work horse for the sidecar.

Regards
Sven Peter
