My front Avon 150/80 R17 is bad and must be replaced.
I am going to replace it with a Metzeler motorcycle tire in the same size.
Does anyone have any comments on other choices for my Valk/Spyder rig?
I probably will be replacing the rear Avon later with a car tire which is fairly common practice with Valk owners.
The Metzeler has a flatter profile than the Avon which will help steering somewhat.

It was recommmended to me that when I replace my front tire on my bike VTX1300 that I get a "Rear" tire that will fit my front rim. Said there is more rubber to road surface on it. Is that a sensible thing to do? And would that work for your Valk as well?

Usually when a rear tire is used in any other position than the rear wheel "Traction" position the rotation is reversed.
The reason for this is that a designated rear motorcycle tire will (Usually) have a direction of rotation arrow for maximum traction due to tread design.
For slave wheels (front or sidecar) driving traction is not needed but braking traction is, so the arrow is reversed when mounting the tire.

Lonnie,Very interesting. Prior to having my sidecar put on I had new tires mounted and they mounted my front tire in reverse by accident. So, from what your saying I shouldn't bother to get it reversed at this point?LindaSorry Wayne, didn't mean to high jack your thread.

No problem, I learned something too, would've never thought of that, thanks Lonnie. I would rather install a car tire on the front because it's flatter and cheaper but I wouldn't know where to start as to size.

Hmmm! A car tire on the FRONT? Wouldn't that make steering much harder? Newbie here ! ! !

Linda,
I was referring to mounting "Rear" tires in other positions.
A designated "Front" tire used as a front tire or sidecar tire should have the arrow pointing in the direction of rotation.

I run a rear motorcycle tire (same size as on a Honda GW 1500) on the front of my GW1800 (Michelin Activ Pilot). Reversed direction though. The tire manufacuter reps recommend it, and it pretty common on the trike forums. see http://motorcycles.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=motorcycles&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fgl1800riders.com
