Formula II
Anyone with a Motorvation Formula II have some input on the seat? Mine was purchased used and the seat was velcroed to the carpet, was told by someone else theres came from the factory like this. Anyone know if this is true and why would they do this? Doesn't seem safe to me, as I am getting ready to put seatbelts in mine after it gets mounted next week and wanted to know what to do about securley mounting the seat.....
I had a Formula II with the same seat. No problems with it in a dozen years. Very easy to remove for camping or whatever. I wondered about seatbelts but never put them in.
Our seat is the same way. Should say 'was the same way' as we replaced it with a seat from a car. Much more comfortable so I am told 🙂
i have been wondering about seatbelts in the sidecar - good idea? bad idea? - pro's / con's - i worried about the grand kids? t
It's a good idea to have smaller children restrained. It will keep them from perhaps getting a part of their clothing or body parts into harms way. If carrying more than one, they sometimes have a tendency to get a little rowdy and pushy, I've known of one pushing the other out of the vehicle. I'm pro seatbelts for kids, to protect them from themselves, exhaust pipes and wheels, not necessarily just from a collision.
Thanks for the responses, just think it is ridiculous that a great company like Motorvation would do something so unsafe life velcro the seat to the floor....I might look into fabricating a floor plate to mount the factory seat in secure or getting a car seat. I got the bike and sidecar frame to the shop today to mount. I will post photos soon as I get it back! I know i said this before, just taking a bit longer than expected.
Just a note about the velco thing. That relatively light weight seat will stay in place just fine in the event of a sudden stop - unlike the heavier body of any passenger sitting on a slippery seat. It's just physics. My wife feels a lot better having a seatbelt, and I installed one within days of her request. "If mama ain't happy..." It was easily mounted (don't forget neoprene/rubber washers to protect the glass). With a seatbelt the velcro question is moot. Enjoy the ride.
as we toured the factory tuesday, mary showed us all the bits & pieces. she essentially said - if my memory serves me - that they use velcro mostly for convenience of the rider. easy to take out & clean, etc. i personally like it cuz hey, the lesser the holes in the body, the better - but that is me. i got a seatbelt for my son in the roadster, no questions. he's 5 & gets excited! i like what weeble said about sliding on a slippery seat. makes a LOT of sense to me, something i hadn't thought of. on the spyder, the entire interior is velcroed in. i can't see anything unsafe about it & as she's been in business for over 25 yrs ... well, you know. but it's like so many other things -- personal preference! 🙂
Just picked up my formula 11 with seat belts. took three of my grandchildren riding together with the belt holding them in and still. Works great. My wife also likes the belts. I thing the belts will hold the seat in place in a sudden stop as it should.
