Here is something I found in my local paper that I found interesting.

http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=496309

Some guy installed an electric motor, some electronics, and 560 pounds of batteries in a modified Harley and bolted on a sidecar with a bio-deisel gen-set in the trunk to help keep them charged.
Claims to be able to 85mph with an range of 60 miles at 55mph without charging assistance.

Add some solar-voltaic cells to the hood and trunk lid of the sidecar and you could go even farther on bright sunny days... 😉

I am also betting that you could get better electrical and weight efficiency by going to an in-the-wheel motor as used on some of the newer electic car designs. The motor is actually built into the wheel assembly. Not power transmission components, and uses regenerative braking to back-feed the batteries when slowing down.

I may have to give this guy a call... 🙂

Yes, and lots of luggage space...

But I think I want something that won't get run over from behind on the highway... 😉
