Driving Techniques
Hello people & Merry Christmas. I'm pretty new to this sidecar stuff but really eager to learn the best techniques in driving them. Is there any classes in NE PA or any good books out there?
Thanks,
Jerry
Hi Jerry and Merry Christmas to you too.
Start here:

Some very good books, free from Hal Kendall. You can even order cd's
Welcome scrubs
Go to the book section on this site and download Hal Kendall books. I think it is easier to just to send him a check for the disc. Get the yellow book from Whitehorse Press "Driving a Sidecar" #n43-sidc price $24.95. Phone 1-800-531-1133. If you haven't already join USCA and subscribed to Hack'd magazine POB 58 Buckhannon W VA 26201. Be for warned these thing are addictive but people that ride them are the nicest people in the world.

Jerry,The Key to what you are about to do is PRACTICE the info. here is free from Hal Kendall but you may want to purchase the CD as Fly mentioned to refer back to from time to time. There are various Sidecar Rallys in this area one in Central PA. and one in Western PA. also if you are interested on Friday at Americade in 05 will be a Sidecar Gathering for a few hours this has been hosted by Bruce and Louise Stephens the last few years and has grown in size each year.At these and other places that sidecars are is a great place to ask questions and learn also see first hand the various rigs that people have the modifications they did and why........as Fly said these things are very addactive and you will meet some fantastic people that ride these things. As for any classes the only thing that I am aware of is a course that is forming in Maryland.Should you have any other questions please feel free to post them as there are some very nowlegable people here on the subject of sidecars.Watch for further info. on some of the rallys that I mentioned above and other sidecar rallys comming up in 2005.

Hi scrubs
What set up do you have? Bike/sidecar.
With all the possible variations its hard to say whats best for you.
Some set ups are easier to learn on then others.
Who put your rig together?
Best thing to do is get several books read them and find a parking lot and practice. Yellow book $24.95 from Duantless Motors is a great start.
Last time I checked there were safety courses in the virginia area on the east coast.
I have a 04 HD Ultra & HD Car. Really been doing pretty well with it, just thought I would try and find out some pointers.
The HD shop put the car on for me. Mechanic drives a hack every day so he knew what he was doing. I believe it works good. On a straight road you can take your hands off the bars, but not for long.
I live in a very rural area of PA so straight roads are few. Cornering is my biggest concern, need to be able to do it better.

Scrubs,
Be sure to download Hal's Books from this site...good info that will help you a lot.
I live near Selinsgrove, Pa....maybe we can get together sometime after the weather breaks.
Also..as Fly mentioned the ISOK Sidecar RON-DEE-VOO is going to be August 5-7 ..it is near Weikert, Pa. about 25 miles west of Lewisburg on route 45. Hope to see you there!!
Claude, just printed the Operator Manual 2003. I'll start there.
My wife & I were at the Ron Dee Voo in August but not until Sunday. Just a couple of guys were left. They had said there was a nice turnout though. Didn't have the sidecar yet, but it was on order. I was hopeing to see what I was getting myself into. Definitly will be there this year.
We have a 50's style luncheonette & variety store in town. Take a ride up here some time, I'll buy you a burger. Best in town! Not open on Sunday! Thats our riding day.

What's the name of your place we will just have to come up sometime. Glad to hear you were at the RON-DEE-VOO but sorry you got there so late. We did end up with 116 even with the bad weather and being the first year ..so this year should be bigger. Hey, dO you know Wayne Miller in Dushore? Had race cars for years.
Claude
Jolly Trolley, next to Millers Hardware. Wayne's mother still runs the store.
Comon up! Nice ride.
Jolly Trolly sounds like a winner...we will be up. Feel free to drop me an email sometime at cstanley@sunlink.net.
