I'm brand new to the sidecar world. I have the yellow book and I'm thinking about attaching a California Friendship II SE to my 1985 BMW K100RS. I appreciate your expertise in advising me if this is a good idea, a bad idea, a dangerous idea....or some other kind of idea. Many thanks in advance.

Should be fine. You will need a subframe though.

I've got an '85 K100RS with an EML and the K100 is about the best sidecar puller I've ever had. I even like it better than my previous K1100LT [although I suspect that I'd like the K1100RS as well or better].

Don't hesitate, find a subframe for the K bike and go for it.
