Hello,
I'm looking at a California sidecar and it looks like a nice deal. I have a question, is this side car suppose to have brakes on it? The guy selling it said it has no brakes on it.
Thank you
Frank

Many of the Californias did not have a brake. They are light weight enough that it was not necessary. As with any sidecar it would be an improvement though.

Older California sidecars never had brakes, Brakes are almost always a good idea and we do offer a retro fit brake kit that does require welding. These early sidecars also have many issues with the torsion bar suspension which has been covered on this forum many times as has the early ball, collet type mounts and frame clamps which are known to fail. If you send me photo's of the sidecar I can tell you want to look for, depending on your bike we may also offer proper bike specific mounting hardware.

I got the brake installed on our G/W Champion Escort (thanks Jay) and really like how it comes to a stop, on a dime, as they say. In this deer-infested area it will get a workout I'm sure.

Hi Frank,
I think you may be assuming that members status as veterans means military service, when actually it refers to post count. I think it is a poor use of the term veteran, but I have other axes to grind.
I'm sure that there are more than a few vets here worthy of recognition.

Just a point of information here...

The term "veteran" is baked into the software. We didn't chose it.
