Hi Everyone. One of the good folks in the Adventure Rider forum pointed me to this website. My wife and I are looking to build, modify, cobble, buy or borrow a sidecar for a 2002 BMW K1200 LT. Our son Daniel lives in his wheelchair and we want to get something we can wheel him into, latch his chair down securely and hit the open road. We are completely new to this sidecar business and have no idea where to start, perhaps someone out there can tell us what we will need to buy or build? Which sidecar manufacturers are experienced and willing to build a customized sidecar or adapt one hey already make? I have talked to one company in California that wants to just sell what they make already, and have attempted to contact another in Pennsylvania that makes custom sidecars for wheelchairs, but have not gotten any response from them. Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

Dauntless Motors in Washington State can build you a sidecar to your special needs. They can also handle the mounting kit necessary for you motorcycle. Check them out at;

www.dauntlessmotors.com

Are you planning to ride three up, your son in the sidecar and you and your wife on the motorcycle? I wonder or maybe question, if it is such a good idea to have someone ride as a passenger behind the driver of a sidecar rig?

Kevin,
We are in Central Pa., about 230 miles from you. Our website is under construction but we do have a Yahoo site up at this time.

There is alive link to it in my signature below. About 99% of what we do at this time is built to order and I would be more than happy to help you out.Click on the link and it will take you to the site.

If you are not a Yahoo member you will have to get a yahoo name and password. Once done go to the photo section and look around.

The black BMW GS (see attachment) is in the shop now if you want to take a look at it. Picture it without the seat etc on it and just being a platform with a nose and maybe sides. That particular design is capable to be made so the wheel chair can be run up onto the platforn from the rear and then be secured while in transit with the passenger in the wheelchair.

The LT you have will make a great tug for you.
Our contct info is at the site.
Hope we can make your plans become a reality.
Claude 🙂

I saw one listed on that famous auction site for $6000.
All set up for a wheel chair, but not likely good for freeway speeds.

Cool idea, I bet he will love it.

The Beamer should make an excellent tug.

Kevin,

I suggest you drop a line to Bob Adamson in Red Lion, PA, a little southeast of York. He has worked with sidecars that carry wheelchairs and may be able to cobble something together for you. He can be reached at:

Adamson's Susquehanna Cycle

I can only help with some "Inspiration".... Some 20 years ago or so on several occasions I saw on the freeways of Houston a BMW with a sidecar rigged up for a wheelchair, and the person in the Wheelchair was DRIVING !!! No one on the bike !!! Took several "double-takes" to be sure of what I was seeing. Now, if that can be done then you should be able to find something out there to fit your needs if you keep looking and asking. And as far as 3 on the rig goes, I have a 1800 Goldwing with a Hannagan sidecar and for this particular setup, I have no problem riding 3-up. Tally-Ho!!!
