Awakening the Spring Beemer
Awakening the Spring Beemer
A friend to awaken, from a long winters nap
Dielectric grease in one hand, and a wrench in my lap
The garage was disheveled, with parts here and there
Most pieces from Max, and delivered with care
The Beemer was silent, no spark in its head
Two boxer cylinders and one battery, all were quite dead
Parts were then opened, from their winter stored pile
So many cold days, they’ve been waiting awhile
Then up with the torque wrench, until it said click
Next relays, coils and wires, oh what the frick
Now all is assembled, I’m ready to try
To smell the exhaust, is that a tear in my eye?
Then out with choke and one twist of the throttle
One puff on the cigar and a sip from the bottle
A relay took hold, it grabbed with a click
No gas in the fuel line, I gave it a wick
The key was then turned, and I pushed the ignition
Would my long winter’s plans, soon come to fruition?
A whirl on the starter, and shimmed valves made a click
the headlight grew dim, then brightly quite quick
A chug and a moan, an intermittent low spit
It was going to happen but this wasn’t quite it
A backfire sounded loudly, the exhaust made a puff
It’s running, it’s running, even if a bit rough
So happy to hear, the engine sound in the air
Even if my cold nose, sensed a rich note might be there
A tweak and touch, adjusting screw and a cable
The old girl settled down, I knew she was quite able
Out of the garage, I hopped on my stead,
my iron horse with sidecar, was no longer in need
On with the helmet and all other attire
I nodded and smiled , this is one happy Friar
Then face shield was lifted, I took a big smell
Winter’s given way, though it tried to freeze hell
I was heard to exclaim, as I drove out of sight
Safe riding to all, and to all keep upright.
This is great. Reminded me of the poem "The Reagon" which is not sidecar related at all. How great it is to have a person who can pull a wrench and also push a pen.
I like it, you go guy!
