Hello, any advise concerning one sidecare vs another. We like the classical look of some of the sidecars but my husband would really like a convertible top. We will be traveling with 2 small dogs and occasionally a grandchild. We would like something that handles well even though I understand that you may have to modify the "trail". Any and all suggestions appreciated. We are located in CA so closer dealer would be better as we would have to have them install as we are not to handy. Looked at urel, motorvation, champion, and liberty sites. thanks

Allen & Di,

Welcome to the world of sidecars. That is 1st next what bike are you looking at putting it on? There is a number of HD and you have pick some good sidecars. Now as to what is close to you can go to β€œthe map” on the home page here then click on CA. this will give you a lot of info.

Doug Bingham's SideStrider Shop is in Van Nuys, CA. He works with most brands.
Give him a call at 818-780-5542.

OK I have had a lot of sidecars over the years they included Motorvation Royal,a couple formula 2s ,CA. Friendships ,Harley sidecars,Champion Escorts. They all had good and bad things about them.My biggest complaint with some was the amount of wind that came off the sidecar and in your face.I think that they were all good to deal with and very helpful.I would not buy any of them with out the elect.lean option it makes life on the road better the flip front end for getting in and out.I have a 2007 Harley Ultra with a Harley sidecar there are two things on the Harley sidecar that are great 1.looks 2 the mounts i don't know if you could break a mount hitting a wall with and don't want to find out but this is where the goods points of the Harley end the other are so far advanced and the options are endless with the others.
That is just some of my input on your question.Like you said you should do something about the front end if your going to leave the sidecar on all the time.I take my sidecar on and off at least once a week I use it for my grandson.Well that's my story

George,
With that response I'd almost bet that you have a Harley tattoo.

You didn't say what model of HD you have. I have no tattoos but I can state that the HD sidecar is certainly the easiest to install on a Harley, assuming that you have an FL. The mounts are designed to fit.

If you have a Softail, then a Liberty would be good since there's no HD sidecar available for the Softail. Also, there is welding required to mount a Liberty sidecar onto an FL Harley.

After re-reading your original post, I think both the Liberty and the H-D car fall short of your desire for a convertable top...

Hello, thanks for responding. We have a 2004 Road King Classic.

The Harley TLE (no radio or speakers) would fit onto yout Road King with the proper connection kit. Assuming you purchase a new sidecar, all that is included. If you buy a used one, you may wind up having to purchase some parts.

A Liberty is also a nice sidecar. It, however, uses a four point attachment. This is fine, except for the Harley FL series, you must weld a mounting nut onto the right side of the frame below the seat. It's also necessary to cut and re-shape the side of the seat to miss the fourth mount.

As mentioned above, neither of these will easily lend itself to a convertible top. If that's your wish, I'd look at one of the many other brands.
