A boy and his dog

I've said before that my wife didn't like the dog in the sidecar because of dog hair and wet dog odor. I came across this photo today. JD was about 11. I taught the dog to ride on the passenger seat of the wing. We lived about a mile from his grandparents and I would let him take the Wing down to see them once in a while. He always worried the dog would run in front of him so he taught him to ride along. :0) This was of course, fifteen years ago on an extremely low traffic rural Wisconsin road. In this photo, they weren't on the road, but practicing by riding around the house.
We had a good friend who was an MSF instructor. Terry started him out at age 6 on a GT50 Yamaha. By the time he was 9 he was giving his cousins rides around the cornfield on a fully dressed GL1000. He never liked the sidecar, though.
Today he still prefers 2 wheels to 3, but is proficient enough on three to rescue the bike if the need should ever arise.
That pic is so sweet, reminded me of the pic I had ( before the fire ) of my BMW R90S with my first wife ( Greg Bob's mom ) and my bassett hound (Ellwood) between use and Greg Bob born two days after. That's when I went out and got my first sidecar. Now with 6 kids and only 5 sidecars it still is sweet 23 years in the making.
