Hey just gonna jump on here long enough to wish everyone a...
HAPPY THANKSGIVING 🙂
Happy Turkey to you and All here.
(I'm having rib steak)
Lonnie

We're having ham. I grew up on a chicken farm. I don't eat anything that once wore feathers.

The post disapeared, so once again.
Mike,
I can imagine how that comes!
Once short before Chrismas we slaughtered in one week 120 geesse, 40 ducks, 25 faisans, 20 rabbits...
That year we had a huge pike made in the oven by Granny.... I guess you too understand why.
2 weeks ago I had my long awaited (16 years) open air "Thanksgiving" party with superb Paella made by a former Jesuit monk from Valencia....Musik made by hand....
Sauerkraut and Sausages (without preservants nor preservatives.....lecker....).... self made fire works and, and, and,.....
We were about 100 kids from 6 years to 85 unaffected by the rain storm.... Dancing till late night.
The nephew who was on charge of the smaller ones and the rig was plowing the whole farm with a grinn from ear to ear...
So Buddies, Enjoy this day at max, be gratefull.
Sven
PS: Our cat has her thanks giving right now here beside the desk in the office... The squirrel youngster's soul for sure does not have the same opinion.
Remind a Costarrican saying: "To every pig arrives its Chrismas!"
Poor Turkeys - Good apetite!
Happy Thanksgiving from California!
Day late here but I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving as well. Ours was an excellent one given the fact that Archie is making some good improvements toward recovery. It looked pretty bleak there for a few days. We brought him home after four days in the hospital last Tuesday. Now he has recovered the use of his front legs and pretty much his right hind leg. And as of yesterday afternoon his final paralyzed leg would flinch if I'd tickle it while he was asleep. Things are looking up.
What happened to Archie , I hope he's ok and getting better. Also HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone.

Tom, a car accident?
Dogs are often pretty tough and stand up from awfull hits. Specially if they are in loving hands.
But not always.
I had to undertake today our youngest dog which was not yet a sidecar companion.
She was too fresh (6-10 month) and most probable a car hit her.
Negra, the one that got poisoned a few weeks ago is fine again, but she became old with the snip of a finger.
Slow going and grey hairs come out.
Best health wishes to Archie.
Sven
He lost the use of his back legs rather suddenly one evening (actually a week ago last Friday.) By the time we rushed him into the Pet Emergency Clinic in Spokane he'd lost the use of his front legs as well. A spinal problem. X-rays didn't show anything definite. Next day he was turned over to a surgeon's care and they did a CT scan. That and the x-rays and blood tests didn't show what it was but eliminated a lot of what's it's not. Spinal fluid was sent in but we haven't got those results yet. Diagnosis: Fibrocartilaginous embolic myelopathy. A stroke in the spinal column. Go to www.petplace.com and do a search for FCE if you want more information. It's the worst thing that's happened to him so far as he goes into old age. Here's hoping he has a few more riding seasons in his future! Sorry to hear of your loss Sven but just as glad your other pup pulled through.
We've got four dogs in our house. (Papillon, Border Terrier, Chihuahua and a Jack Russel Terrier) The Jack Russel terrier belongs to my daughter. The dog developed problems with eliminating urine. We took her to the vet and the diagnosis was bladder stones and an infection. The result was an operation and a $1,000 bill. She's in perfect shape now and they've given us a special diet for her. It was worth it to keep her going. I don't like putting dogs down when there's a glimmer of a chance. At 6 years of age, she got some more time coming.
My previous dog was a Beagle named Buster. He lived from 1988 to 2007, 19 years. I sure miss him.
Our old Penny, half yellow lab lived to 18. What a fine girl she was. She knew lots of our other dogs right up through Archie. But she's the only one of the others he has known. I know what you mean about the expense not being a reason to put a dog down. Only quality of life issues would make me even consider that. In Archie's case, we're into this latest situation nearly $4000 right now. The Pet Emergency Clinic is a fine facility with top notch doctors and right up there with any other health care costs as well. Some people might say I was nuts to spend that much on health care for a dog. But those same people would say I was nuts to spend the price of the Liberty sidecar for the Harley so he could ride with me. Do I care what those people say? Guess.... I've never enjoyed life so much as when we're on the road together!

Perhaps simmilar thought passed through my brain last year with the Irish Setter/Golden Retriever breed.
The last 7 weeks in the mountains with her were worth the bad operations.
Most of all the memory stays vivid AND was the experience a good lesson for the children too.
Perhaps not as consequent as my father with his Airedile Terrier. That one had a trained person for to guide the blind dog...
How you explain it, this is what is told to be the typical health problem for Boxer.
Let's hope the best for Archie.
Best wishes
Sven

It's how you feel about it when it's all over. No one should even say a negative word about trying to save a dog.
No matter what is done, it all comes down to doing what WE believe to be the best decision for those involved in that situation. It does not matter what others think, only that we believe it to be the best possible decision for that time and place. No second guessing as to what should have been or might have been done. No one else walks in our shoes and therefore cannot make the necessary decisions that we believe to be the best for that time and place. On a similiar note, if we were concerned or worried about what others thought, would we have sidecars? This country needs more independent thinkers, not more followers.
I had Rocky a chocolate lab for 14 years before I had to put him down due to health issues, I spent a ton of money on his health problems and would have spent another ton if I thought it would have helped him,he was one of the best friends I've ever had and you can't put a price on that. Letting him go was one of the hardest things I've ever done,it still hurts when I think about it. Just always remember that all of our beloved pets will meet us at Rainbow Bridge when we finally leave this world. I now have a 11month old choc. lab named Lincoln and he is one of the reasons I'm buying my sidecar. Tom what kind of set up do you have to keep Archie in the sidecar?
