Greetings, USCA Members and Guests.

This is a bittersweet post that I'm reluctantly, and finally, placing. I am a new USCA Member, but have had the good fortune of exchanging with several regular posters over the better part of a year, and have "lurked" for a long time. Miles "Flying Monkeys" Ladue has been particularly helpful over the many months. ...as has Kent Silk. Thank you to you both.

I know the provenance of the set-up I am selling. David Halliday was the original purchaser of the GS, and he had the sidecar mounted at DMC in WA, in 2011. In 2017, Justin Schlageter -- who was (is?) a USCA Member -- purchased from Mr. Halliday. I retain a well-organized 3-ring binder that Mr. Schlageter created to attend to regular maintenance, and to memorialize "hack-specific" instructions and work, including e-mail exchanges with original owner Mr. Halliday. At this point, the rig lived in Irvine, California. (I've not been able to have direct exchanges with Mr. Halliday, so I don't know where he was based.)

In 2023, Mr. Schlageter sold to Steve Jensen, who is a resident of Santa Barbara, California. Mr. Jensen, also a USCA Member, is retired. More importantly to the story, though... he is an A&P mechanic ("airframe & powerplant," aviation), and from what I can tell, having met and spent time, his passion is in the workshop. Mr. Jensen placed the rig up for sale earlier in '24, and I purchased it and did a "fly-and-ride" over my wife's teaching Spring Break, in March, to COLORADO SPRINGS, where it is now in the climate controlled garage, with only 1,400 more miles.

This is what I know, from previous owners, and my own observations:

-- As it now rests, the bike is on the smart-charger, with 49,655 original miles.

-- The bike ran flawlessly from CA to CO. I observed no oil use. It "tugged" as fast as I wanted to go, at all times, elevations, inclines.

-- I found the bike's upgraded seat quite comfortable, and it would likely also be so for someone my height and taller. I'm 5'9", and there was ample room. I believe the seat's origins was a topic of conversation the last time this bike made an appearance on this forum. I'm sorry, but I can't remember the manufacturer. Maybe someone can help me?

-- Mr. Jensen rebuilt the Paralever / Telelever shock units, front and rear, during his stewardship. These were, so the boxes I saw in Santa Barbara would have me believe, YSS products.

-- Mr. Jensen also added a third LED brake light that engages: flash - flash - flash - steady.

-- The Jesse panniers are in outstanding condition, and spacious.

-- Fairing is very effective, at least at my height. Screen remarkably clear and undamaged.

-- Included Garmin Zumo was invaluable on the trip.

-- The rig runs automotive rims (X3), and new tires, minus only the 1,400 highway miles I put on them. (165-15.) I see no sign of wear.

-- Sidecar is in excellent condition. E-trim works perfectly. upholstery is undamaged. Seat Belt. Snap in side skirt at access side, and rig has original tonneau cover, whereby the screen is lowered, and the whole rig is more aerodynamic for passenger-less efficiency. Everything works.

-- Tub has cupholder and power outlet. An ammo box with full tool kit (image) is included.

-- Sidecar has well-functioning running / fog lights, diamond plated "bash" protection, and rear rack. Aft storage is incredibly spacious. My airline carry-on bag fit flat, front-to-rear.

Here's the tale-of-woe: I knew it was questionable, even when I bought the bike, as to my physical condition. Without belaboring it, I have ongoing, and increasingly debilitating, back issues. Started with OTJ injuries, and things cascaded. Two total hips, and now failing lumbar injections. It isn't... going well.

I bought the set-up planning to enjoy trips (Zion? Glacier?) with my new Mastiff puppy, but it isn't going to work for me. If we do it, it will just be in the (predictable) Subaru Outback.

I'm certain there's much more life in the 49K tug, and it appears as though everyone in the chain-of-ownership was very conscientious. Unfortunately, I have only been back on the bike, after parking it in my garage, to travel the few miles to get a "VIN-verification" required by Colorado on out-of-state purchases.

I have the fresh Colorado Title, the unmounted plate, and quite a few related parts and documents. It is ready to ride. I will price it reasonably, and at a loss. You'll have no buyers remorse. It is a nice set-up.

I will try to attach pics in this and subsequent posts.

Pictures of the whole rig from the left side and the right side would help.  The car looks to be a DMC M72DX, not an Expedition, but a pic from the side will show us.  Certainly isn't a double-tubed Expedition frame.  Also, you say the bike is a GSA, which has a 7.9 gallon tank, but you also say the tank is under 6 gallons.  The regular R1150GS had a 5.8 gal tank.  Again, a pic from the side will be helpful.  Of course, the GS and GSA tanks are switchable so you could have a GSA with a 5.8 gal tank or a GS with a 7.9 gal tank!  The GS and the GSA had different gear ratios so maybe the only way to know for sure is to look up the VIN.

The Stroker front wheel is a bonus.  Jesse's look great!  Russell Day-Long seat.  And the proportioning valve for the sidecar brake is nice.

From Ireland......WOW !

The  Jesse Bags, the  Russell  Day  Long seat,  the adjustable  proportioning valve for the  sidecar  brake,  the  Garmin  GPS, and.....the almost  hidden  Ride Bell...

That is a steal for  less than $ 9k

Drone:

Thank you for taking the time, and I appreciate the observations and corrections. I made a series of errors, for which I apologize.

Let me address some of the mistakes here:

Sorry for stating the "Expedition" with certainty. I spent quite a bit of time on Mr. Silk's website, and I still wasn't sure. Then I had an exchange with the second owner, who stated with confidence, and without reservation, that it was an Expedition.

And.... fair enough, as to the GS and GSA confusion. (...mine, I mean.) You are almost certainly correct. I was, again, taking at face value the discussions with previous owners. I didn't think it unreasonable to use Mr. Jensen's photos, given how recently in time, and in mileage, they were taken, and the only later image was the last, taken by a friend I visited with in La Quinta, CA, on the trip back. Not very helpful, I know. I will see what I can do, image-wise, but I'm not getting around very well.

You mentioned that a VIN might help. Excellent thought.

I appreciate the collective knowledge, here. Thanks for reading and observing closely.

All: I think I've addressed the needed changes, due to mistakes Drone was helpful enough to point out. Sorry for the hassle. JFG

No worries.  Most of us here are old timers dealing with one thing or another.  Mostly age-related medical decrepitude.

That VIN belongs to a R1150GS manufactured in Feb 2001.

You can edit a post by (1) making sure you are logged in, (2) scroll to the post you want to edit, (3) in the lower right corner of the post find a blue button that looks like a tiny pencil writing on a piece of paper (right next to the Trash Can) - if you hover your cursor over the button the word "Edit" will appear.  Click it.

For images, this forum is super easy.  Any picture that you can make appear on your computer screen can be copied and pasted directly into your post.  No need to upload or create a link.  Just paste it in.

As far as changing the title of the thread, somebody else will have to solve that one.

Title now reflects it being a 2001 R1150 GS not GS-A.  Wasn't me.

Hi, Folks. Genuinely still working on a whole-view L, R, and F, R series of photos. To repeat the corrections: 2001 R1150GS, and I will go with whatever the expert judgment is, as to which DMC model it is. I DO know it is remarkably spacious, the trunk is a cavern, the access is excellent with the tub cut-out (and accompanying vinyl skirt), and the proportioning valve and electric trim...  All of these features were all part of my purchasing calculation. Best, John
