I did not have to take off my exhaust to put on the lower rear mount but my bike is a lot older (1993) so I don't know what the latest exhaust systems...

There is a Harley step unit on ebay right now if you don't already have one. The step makes it a little easier to get in and out.

There's some other stuff you may have to do with the brakes. On some newer model years than mine they put on a different brake pedal and master cylind...
