Jerry, so far, the only alerts I've been getting are for "likes".

If somebody quotes my post, do I get an alert?

If somebody invokes my user name, do I get an alert, or is there a particular way to invoke a user so they get an alert?

I want to make a more complete post about this very topic but I have been busy with other things lately. The short answer is:

  • You get email alerts if someone mentions you in post by your username, ex @viajero
  • You get email alerts if you subscribe to a topic for a subforum.
  • You get email alerts if you 'follow' someone.

I'm not sure yet if someone quotes your post if you get alerted. I think not right now...

From the documentation:

"Enable User Following
"Started from version 2.0.0 users can follow other users. If this option is enabled, the [Follow] button will be displayed on a user’s profile pages, letting users subscribe to certain users topics and posts. The follower user will receive email notification when the followed user posts a new topic or post."

Additionally, if someone doesn't want to be bothered by 'mentions' (ie getting emails), they can turn them off in their profile.

"Users can mute the mentioning emails from their profile page:"

OK, FM just mentioned my forum name with the @ before it and I got a notification.  I also got a notification of your reply above.  So that works.

But no email notification for either of those, which is fine with me.  Perusing through my Profile, I don't see anywhere to turn email notifications on or off.  So maybe we don't have that feature enabled?

In another thread I tried mentioning user "Steve Ives" with the @ sign and the software turned it into "at Steve" not "at Steve Ives". So it looks like the software is having a problem with user names that have more than one word?

Anyway, it's early days yet and this is a nit.  Perhaps just put it on the list for later.
