Is anyone running a 1700 Road Star with a car? If so, any problems with overheating or handling. I'm thinking about moving my Motorvation Roadster from the Honda to the Star. Thanks. Dick

Contact Jody at http://www.rockriverpowersports.com/ She is running a sidecar on a Star, but I don't remember what model it is. Her email address is on the bottom of her website.

So did you run the rig on a star?

Bonjour David! sa va? ....mdntstr, are you lugging the revs and not getting air flow? or are you over reving and burning your clutch out? clutch slip will certainly raise your engine temp quickly also be dilligent on your oil changes, with hard work comes quick break down of the viscosity of the oil,..also check and aftermarket rad covers as thay tend to restrict the flow through the fins,...my 2 cents, crawf.

I have been running a Ural sidecar on my VStar 1100 since June 02. About 32,000 miles ago. I have had no problems at all. It is a great setup. Very low center of gravity. The mounts are welded to my frame. I have bought another sidecar and am looking for a used VStar 1100 to build a rig for my wife. She loves the extra carrying capacity and is always stealing my rig to go to the store.

With that many miles on mounts welded to the Japanese steel frame, I would start checking regularly for cracks in the heat affected zone of all the non OEM welds.
They usually crack or break in two before 20,000 miles of usage.

Hi, I recently purchased a 2000 Roadstar (1600) with a Champion Daytona car. The rig is new to me and is actually in the shop. Turns out the person I bought it from wasn't much into maintainance and there were, let's say "issues". No experience with it commuting or anything yet, but I did drive it home 1,000 miles and the rig was great! Even with what turned out to be transfer case problems (due to neglect, not from having the sidecar) the Roadie pulled that big car no problem, handled just fine, and got me home. I'd go for it.

Hi Dick, just an update for ya. I got my rig back together this weekend and everything is great. I did try it without the steering damper, just to see if it was necessary and I found that it was. Handling is much better now than when I bought it thanks to realigning the car based on what I learned here. No issues with overheating even in this extreme heat we've been having. But then again the most traffic I deal with is waiting my turn at our 4 way stop. (Yup, and we've got a stoplight too!)
