this winter I have been working on a 1981 XS650 Yamaha and a 2003 Velorex 562 sidecar. I am in the process of finishing up the subframe and locating frame/body so I can decide where the upper struts will bolt to. I have read that the wheel lead should be 8-10" and have seen 10-15% wheel base. The 650 wheelbase is only 56.5" so that makes it 5.65-8.47" I see that if I understand less wheel lead is better so where does one go on a short wheelbase bike. I would upload a pic but my files are too big and I don't know how to make them smaller. I'm no tek wizard. Also looks like about 48" rear wheel width center to center

This light and small of a bike and sidecar wheel lead is really not all that critical to get it at exactly the right number. We do not even try to measure it, we just get it in the ball park. One quick way is to "eye ball" straight down the axle of the sidecar and have it at about the front of the rear wheel rim. A 16 inch wheel the front of the rim is about 8 inches.
