What kind of wheel brg.life should you get whith a sidecar is there a rule of thumb?I sold a guy one and he got 60 miles from here called me and said the rear wheel brg.was shot well I never heard a noise out of it I had put about 3000 miles on the rig it had new tires put on it before I bought it I would think at that time they would have checked the brgs.
The sidecar is a heavy watsoinan Oxford. What are the chances that the guy was showing his buddy how he could fly the chair and something on the hub or wheel brg.broke.
I sold this thing to him he thinks I lied and knew that the brg. was bad.Well I sure wouldn't have a guy come all the way from IL. and leave Carson City NV.knowing there was a bad brg.I had done everything to the bike I felt it needed.I guess my lesson here is allways check the wheel brgs.

3,000 miles on the rig but how many on the GL? An 1100 can have a gang of miles on it already.
Haven't heard of any other complaints Re: GL rear wheel bearings.

Thanks Lonnie the bike has a total of about 33000 miles on it.I feel bad that I sold it to the guy and he called the next day to tell me that he only made it 60 miles before the wheel brg. went south.I told him I would fix it he told me he thought he had it fixed good enough to make it to Las Vegas well before he got there the rear end was over heating and making noise.Well if he would have let me take care of the brg and replacing the wheel that would have been the end of it.But now he wants a $1000.00 and I don't feel that the extra damage should be on me.I sold him the rig for $3500.00 and felt that was cheap with a leading link I just wanted to sell it.I been selling bikes and sidecars over 20 years and this is my first bad deal

John,
If you offered him a free repair before subsequent damage was done and he refused, It sounds to me like a case of "You bought it, you got it".
Even a new motorcycle warranty won't pay for repairs caused by damage incurred from driving a vehicle after known damage has occured and correction has been refused.

My opinion,

Lonnie

That guy past up a chance at a cheap fix with full knowledge that continuing on a bad bearing would cause worse damage. Now he's after you to bail him out for his poor judgment. I wouldn't give him anything more than my condolences.

I'm with Lonnie and Mark. You were dealing in good faith when you sold him the bike, you were dealing in good faith when you offered to make repairs originally and he turned you down. He knew it wasn't a new bike when he bought it, it was his choice to continue on after the original problem and your offer to set things right at that time. Sure he's dissappointed now but that's no reason for you to own any of the problem at this point. IMHO.
