Velo 565 lights...
The 565 Velo that we have attached to the Guzzi was set up and done when we got the rig so I have no knowledge of the wiring set up... yet.
While checking the lights prior to a night ride last week my Son noticed the front directional has the white lower half of the light as the blinker and the amber top is not lit at all. There is a bulb in the top section and the bottom appears to be the type of bulb one would use for interior lighting for a car or perhaps (I'm speculating here) to light the way for the step on the car.
Does anyone here have the same car or can someone tell me whether there are interior lights...? Side step lights...? Should the amber side light, mounted on the fender (mudguard) be illuminated...?
I don't think that the directional is supposed to blink white light, although the rig recently passed state inspection...
The top section of the light assembly is only a single filament not an 1157 dual as used in running lights and directionals.. bummer too as the light would look neat as a running light.
I have sent an email to the company looking for a wiring diagram but have yet to hear back...
Thanks,
Rob
I have a 2006 565. The wiring as it came from the factory has only four wires. I have no idea if earlier models used the same harness or if someone has played with your wiring. The White wire is ground and most likely will be connected to a brown wire on your bike. The Black wire is your running lights and ON when the ignition (or Headlight) is turned on. This would be the white sidecar light in front and the dimmer red light in back. The Yellow wire is the right turn signal(Front and Back). The red is the stop light. Hope this helps ... if not let me know and I'll take the lenses off and give you further details ...TomJ
So from this info I gather you are telling me that the white on the front of the fender should be on when the rear red light is on...? And both front and rear amber are directionals.... I'll go take the lens off and have a peek... sounds like someone did half the job when wiring it... well, three quarters of it.. 🙂
In that same vein then, I wonder if I could use the front white light wire to wire in an actual auxiliary light...
Thanks Tom, very much.

My bike, an '82 BMW, has a headlight that is on all the time the ignition is on,... therefore the white light on the sidecar is always on. If your headlight is still controlled by a switch on the handlebar then you could run a wire from the headlight wire to the white light so it would always be on when the headlight is on. Sounds like a good safety/clearance/running light idea .
As an alternative you could create an addition on/off switch tha would only light that running light .... I like the "Full-Time-On" idea myself. TomJ
P.S That yellow lens on the side of the fender is strictly a safety reflector. Some states require it. It would be easy to replace it with illumination but I doubt the effect would be worth the effort.
Tom,
The Guzzi has "Always On" lights also....
So, not to be obtuse here but.. which part of the amber/white lens light on the right front fender of yours is the directional..?
My light has two bulb in it, top and bottom.
I'm gonna go play with the wires... 🙂
Thanks much,
Rob
Whereabouts in Western PA are you...? We traveled through on the way to W.Va last Spring, nice roads and mountain passes you have there....
Most lighting problems arise from the european use of a white ground (ala US residential wiring) instead of the usual US automotive and motorcycle black ground.
The lights will all work somewhat if the improper ground is used, but not correctly.
For Velorex wire loom it's: white ground, red stop, black running lights, yellow turn signals.
I've connected a halogen auxiliary light to the front running light and they worked OK.
Some bikes like Moto Guzzis and some earlier Harleys and Japanese cruisers will need a heavy duty flasher unit installed for the turn signals to work correctly without fluttering or blowing a fuze.

The white light (bottom) should be on all the time if the harness is hooked up properly. The upper (yellow) light is the turn indicator. The front and rear turn signals are attached under the sidecar to a common single wire.
To avoid the mentioned overload of the turn signal relay, I left the signal wires hooked up for use when riding solo but removed the bulbs from the bike housings so they would not flash.
I,m in Western Pa where Interstate 80 crosses the Ohio state line. You're right about some great twisties here.... that's why I have my bike rigged to switch to solo use so I can bend those turns once in a while...TomJ
Tom, i am 4mi. south of I-76 off rt534 in Oh. about 20 -25 minutes from Pa. line. do you ever get over this way ?

I have been out riding all day.... 🙂 Went to see "Cars" too.... very cool movie.
This morning I got under the car to have a look at the wiring plug ins, two each with places for four wires, one main connector with room for eight. The four plug that heads to the front light has three wire connectors in it, no red needed (brake light) ... the connector had been turned 90 degrees by the PO at some time in its short life, the black connector lead had no feed to it hence the running light being out.
Now that the amber is the blinker I will need to tape of the inside of the lens as it blinds me at night on right hand turns... Just no pleasing some folks is there...
Thanks all,
Rob
I have forgotten the routes we used to cross over into W. Va, I'll look them up, we stayed Weirton and attended a Rally in New Cumberland.... That was a great ride.
