van tire on rear......

Hey folks, question for "seasoned" hackers .... I installed a C.T. on rear wheel when I mounted sidecar .... I like it and it looks good but I noticed that with the profile of the the tire being flat as compared to a motorbike tire which is rounded, as we all know, the recommended lean-out by the builder, 3rd of a bubble (on the level) .... is causing tire to wear more on left side, (viewed from the rear) I guess this is normal? and does it matter??
is anybody running with zero lean out, which I figure would cure this tire wear problem?

The attitude of the bike and sidecar aren't necessarily the same. The sidecar should be level with the road. If the bike is leaned out from it there will be more wear on the left side of the bike tires. The lean out is necessary to compensate for the road crown. Without it you'll be heading for the mailboxes.
Motorcycle tires will also wear a bit off center to the left if used.
You'll still get a lot more mileage with the auto tires than a bike tire will give you.
Lonnie.

Thanks Lonnie ..... I understand what you saying .... just wanted some feedback on the subject, and like you say CT tire will last longer .... another plus that just occurred to me is, a motorbike tire is directional so when it wears down you have to buy a new one $$$$ ..... my CT is non-directional so before it gets too worn I can take it off rim and rotate it?? or is this not advisable? .... anyway even left alone .... tire will last much longer than a bike tire!!

How many miles do you have on the car tire?

Hey Vlad .... I only have a couple hundred miles on that rear CT!! I guess calling it "wear" was misleading? I was going by the the road dirt, I guess you can call it, on tire ...right edge, viewed from rear, was always clean....
check Roadstar Clinic forum, lots of members gone darkside, with solo bikes and getting big mileage with Comtrac and other brands of CTs
my rear tire is a Comtrac 175x75x16 ... $153 shipped to the house ..........
