Turning a Wheel
I have a Shadow 1100T which has a (((16"))) rear wheel, I would like to put a car tire on it but as I understand it the metric rims are just a little bigger than a 16" inch car tire ID so i need to have it turned and I can't find any place that will do something like this, if I can't get it done I'm going to be stuck with Dunlop tires because there the only ones that I know of that makes a 170/70R-16, and trust me, there *not* cheap. So if there is anybody that can head me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

Ted, 15" IS REALLY THE 'PROBLEM' SIZE. 16" should work as it is for a car tire. Keep in mind that there are bead area issues when using any motorcycle rim for a car tire , design wise, but these have not proven to be a problem in real practice.
Size has been documented to be th eproble with 15" wheels though.
Disclamers apply of course...in other words your decisions and the outcome produced from them are your responsibility.
Hi Claude,
I appreciate your quick response, now I have to find somebody locally that knows tires and can match me up with the right size, hopefully I can get one smaller in Dia., with shaft drive there isn't much one can do ratio wise.
Thanks again Claude,
Ted
Finding a suitable auto tire on 16" could be an issue. Jay at Dauntless had been selling the twin tires but I am not sure if he still has any in stock or not. When they are all gone ,if they are not already, there will be no more on the planet.
The Harley guys have had decent service from a 491 dunlop cycle tire and also from a police cycle tire that is avaiable. The police tires have a very stiff sidewall intened to be able to be run whith no air in them in an emgergency situation. Some shops will not order them, or so it has been reported, but many have gotten them and they seem to work well.
If you search the archived posts here you will find better info on these. Hopefully someone will post better info than I have on this.
We have 11 of the 125 85 VR 16 twin tire. The 90's are long gone. There are still some in Australia that we sold some one.

Thanks for the reply Jay, It looks like this might be the answer I'm looking for, I run the numbers through my tire size calculator and come up with this:
125/85-16 170/70-16
side wall-4.2 4.7
Dia. 24.4 25.4
Cir. 76.5 79.7
RP mile 828 @ 60 795
What do you think?, I need to drop the final ratio and with a shaft drive it a little bit hard to do, what would be the cost to my door in Leavenworth Wa. 98826
Thanks Jay,
Ted
Jay, for some reason wen sent the numbers moved together in the comparison of the tires.
